Peer Support Specialist

The Barren River District Health Department serves the residents and visitors of Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson, and Warren counties of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Our mission is to serve our community with a commitment to excellence in quality service by protecting and improving the environment and health of people through prevention, surveillance, education, and partnerships.The Barren River District Health Department is accepting applications for a full-time Peer Support Specialist to be based in *Warren County*, but will serve all 8 counties as needed (Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Simpson and Warren).*Responsibilities:** This position will use their lived experience with substance use to provide support, advocacy, and mentorship to individuals experiencing substance use disorder.* This position will work with clients in the syringe services program to address the social determinants of health.* This position will work on the harm reduction team and duties include working the Syringe Services Programs across the district.* This position will develop strong relationships with community partners such as treatment recovery centers and social services providers to help address the needs of clients.* Other duties as assigned.*Minimum Requirements:** The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and exercise appropriate boundaries.* Must have lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.* Completion of a certified Peer Support Specialist training program (or willingness to obtain certification within a specified time frame).* The minimum requirement is a high school diploma or GED *and* two (2) years of experience in public health or health related occupation where the skills, knowledge, and other abilities can be demonstrated.* Preference will be given to applicants that are bilingual.* Applicant must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.*Why Work with Us?*_We understand the need for work-life balance._* Our agency works on a typical Monday thru Friday schedule from 8-4pm- for a total of a 37.5 hour work week.* We provide paid time off for vacations and sick days.* 11 ½ paid holidays_Our Comprehensive Benefits package is pretty great too._* Excellent Health Insurance benefits* Dental and Vision benefits (individual policies paid for by the agency)* FSA/HRA options available* Life insurance policy of $20,000 (paid for by agency)* Retirement through the Kentucky Public Pension Authority (KPPA)And so much more!The minimum hourly wage is $15.17.
