Position Title: Defense Technical WriterLocation: Onsite in York, PAPay Rate: $50.82/hrSchedule: 9/80Special skill set: Experience in military ground vehicles, ability to obtain US Security ClearancePosition DescriptionCreates and revises complex technical documentation to support the marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of company products. Ensures documents conform to company and government standards, specifications, and language usage principles. Develops technical documentation using advanced publishing software technology, including product descriptions, detailed functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance and repair procedures, illustrated parts breakdowns (IPB), reports, proposals, marketing literature, or other materials related to company products.Ensures compliance with customer requirements, government specifications, engineering standards, and language guidelines. Collaborates with engineering staff on systems and equipment to create and revise technical documentation. Analyzes and interprets engineering drawings and other technical data to translate information into technical documentation. Evaluates illustrations and graphics to best utilize them within the documentation and requests the creation or modification of graphics as needed.Assists in evaluating project requirements by providing time and cost estimates. May interface with customers on project content and technical issues. Participates in reviews and validation efforts (onsite and offsite) for technical writing assignments. Assists with the overall design of technical documentation by providing input on format and style. May lead small or portions of large technical writing assignments and may participate in or perform unit and/or system testing on Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs). Stays current with industry trends, practices, and applications. Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.Skills RequiredWorking knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations to write technical documentationWorking knowledge of advanced publication/page production software and Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) functionality and development processesAbility to understand complex engineering designs, analyze and interpret engineering drawings and terminology, and translate into accessible language for non-engineersAbility to create and revise complex technical documentation, effectively answer customer questions and concerns related to company equipment and systems, engage in problem-solving with cross-functional team members, provide guidance to team members, and ensure documentation is produced on time and within budgetAttention to detail, strong concentration, and excellent command of the English languageXML Authoring Tool experience (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor and Oxygen)Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional PDF Software or similar electronic markup tools for illustration markupsTechnical writing experience/knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and operator topics in the defense industryValidation/verification and on-vehicle experience a plusContent Management System (CMS) experience a plusKnowledge of interactive electronic technical manual functionality, development processes, and markup languages is preferredFamiliarity with relevant military and commercial standardsExperience RequiredDefense industry experienceEducation RequiredBachelors degree in a relevant technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus 2 additional years of relevant experienceEOE (including Disability/Veterans)How to Apply for This Job:To apply for this position, please follow these steps: Apply for this job with your current resume.
