Special Education Teacher for Grades 3-6

Needed:Special Education Teacher to work in a co-teacher model. Discovery is looking for a certified teacher and may make an exception for teachers in the process of certification, depending on experience and other qualifications. Discovery Charter school is a high performing K-6 school serving a student population of approximately. 95% poverty, 13% ENL, 18% SWD. Discovery has high expectations for students as well as staff. Plan and deliver effective lessons2. Differentiate instruction3. Teach reading and writing across the disciplines while integrating mathematics, science, social studies and the arts4. Use student-engaged assessments and data to drive instruction, to create a culture of engagement and achievement5. Build a community of learning school-wide6. Foster character, social-emotional competency and physical development7. Engage families and the community in the life of the school8. Promote adventure while supporting the school’s mission and vision9. Perform other instructional duties, as deemed appropriate by the DirectorKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:1. Excellent oral and written communication skills2. Ability to work with diverse children, including those with special needs3. Ability to work well with parents4. Ability to work effectively as a team member5. Willingness to be held accountable for student progressMinimum Qualifications:1. Current valid New York State Teaching Certificate at the elementary level with SPED certification2. Master’s degree in education related field3.
