Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the WorldPower Lineman needed in Antarctica!Summary: Supports the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Linemen will perform electrical distribution maintenance or construction work, or any combination thereof, under the supervision of the Lineman Foreman. Tasking is based ASC schedule requirements.Position Responsibilities:Perform hands-on installation of branch circuits, power distribution wiring, electrical equipment, fixtures, and conduit in compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC) Perform hands-on installation and maintenance of overhead electrical lines in accordance with applicable codes, working with voltages up to 4160 voltsPerform hands-on diagnosis, repair, and scheduled Preventative Maintenance on existing systems, equipment, fixtures, and infrastructureTimely response to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hoursMaintain accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involvedAdvise immediate Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirementsAccomplish tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications, and wiring diagramsWork directly with other departments to plan and complete taskingPrepare and document work plans, job hazard analysis, job safety analysis, code required forms, checklists, and internal procedural documents as requiredPerform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme cold weatherRoutinely utilize independent judgment and discretion to identify potential issues and solve problemsProactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicate them effectivelyWork directly with other departments to plan and complete taskingLearn and effectively utilize computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applicationsFollow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), suggest revisions as needed, and create SOPs as directed Perform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme cold weatherProactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicate them effectivelyComply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirementsParticipate in Work Center Safety Program and ASC safety objectivesPerform other duties as required Required Qualifications:Current journeyman lineman license, completion of an apprenticeship program, or proof of holding a journeyman lineman union cardMinimum four years of experience in all phases of the lineman trade including rough wiring, power distribution wiring, installation and maintenance of power distribution systems, installation of conduit, and wiring of electrical equipmentExperience working with 4160 volt systemsThorough knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and the principles of electricityUnderstanding of National Electrical Code Grounding and Bonding requirementsPossess the competencies, willingness and ability to perform the duties of positionExpected Skills and Competencies:Skilled in ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, diagrams, maintenance manuals and manufacturer''s troubleshooting guides to accomplish taskingExperienced developing written work plans, job hazard analysis, and job safety analysis related to the work activities under a permit to work systemThorough knowledge of the principles of electricity and the current National Electrical CodePossess prior computer experience and be able and willing to learn and effectively utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications Extremely knowledgeable regarding occupational hazards of the electrical trade and related safety precautionsExperienced in maintenance of commercial, government, industrial, and/or institutional facilitiesProficient in LOTO procedures for various taskingProficient in confined space safety protocolsProficient in electrical safety procedures (NFPA 70E and OSHA)Proficient in risk assessment and determination of PPE appropriate to specific taskingKnowledgeable of limits of PPE and proper maintenance of PPEFamiliar with fall protection and respirator useCompetent analyzing situations and making technical and safety decisions based on specifications and applicable codes and manufacturer guidelinesSolid decision-making ability and sound judgment to safely and effectively solve problemsGood organizational and planning skillsPreferred:Experience working in a commercial or industrial environmentValid Commercial Driver''s LicenseExperience with Microsoft Office SuitePhysical and/or Other Requirements:Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periodsWillingness and ability to deploy to remote research support facilities for day trips or extended periodsMust participate in community programs such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (station clean-up), "GASH" (galley clean-up at Palmer), and recycling effortsWilling and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximumWilling and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold conditionsSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental
