Job Description

Company is seeking a Vice President of Sales Engineering to manage the team that performs our early customer technical engagements. This person will be responsible for ensuring we can demonstrate our technological differentiation to prospects and customers, develop prototypes applying our capabilities to business problems, support capture efforts, and collaborate with the product team and the broader company to evolve our technology vision and execution. The successful candidate will have a proactive let ''s figure it out attitude, experience developing software which applies data science to understand and solve problems, the ability to engage with clients and translate complex technical concepts into understandable functional impacts, and a proven history of managing high-energy and successful sales engineering teams. The Vice President of Sales Engineering will have broad exposure to multiple programs and projects across Company coupled with the ability to directly influence design and implementation. They will champion the application of our machine learning, predictive/prescriptive analytics, and data collections to solve critical business problems, and be the face of our company ensuring that world sees that the BigBear way is consistent, pushes the envelope of what is possible, and differentiated. You will manage the education of our clients and staff to help them understand what we can achieve and solving the hardest problems / shepherding the process of getting projects started. What you will doSupport increasing revenue from product and solutions sales by managing a team to:Engage with prospects to design and then prototype applications of BigBear products for machine learning based predictive and prescriptive analyticsHost client meetings and describe and demonstrate BigBear products and market/technological differentiation, discover and understand customer businesses and needs, and shape and scope customer projects which leverage BigBear products and solutionsSupport solution development, prototyping, and writing of technical proposalsAct as a visionary trusted customer liaison and product manager in our most complicated accounts, engaging with mission owners/operators to discover applications for ML, set project expectations, define requirements, and review resultsProvide ongoing advice to projects around technical solutions, best practices, and efficienciesMaintain awareness of the latest data science methods and technologies and proactively support the adoption of truly beneficial new capabilitiesWork with product development teams to ensure customer functional requirements are fully considered, best practices and differentiated learnings are shared, and a single Company identity is supported.This position can be located at our offices in McClean, VA., San Diego, CA., or possibly remote.What you need to haveMinimum of 12 years in product Sales Engineering related rolesMinimum of 8 years of involvement in the design, development, and deployment of data-driven analytics software solutions, where individual coding contributions were broadly applicable to successMinimum of 5 years managing technical teams involved in analytics software developmentExperience engaging with senior-level executives, business analysts, and technical subject matter experts in support of data science or analytics effortsAbility to describe the data assumptions and processing steps of common machine learning methods, and which methods are appropriate for a variety of use casesFamiliarity and ability to develop - or quickly ramp up to develop - with the following:ML Libraries such as Scikit-learn, Pandas, Numpy, PySpark, MXNet, MLib, Weka, Spacy, and FastTextML Platforms such as KNIME, Spark, SageMaker, H2O, and TensorFlowJava, Python, and SQL including related ecosystems and frameworks, like Eclipse, Jupyter Notebooks, Spring, and DjanjoDistributed platforms (i.e. HBase, PrestoDB, Athena, Spark, Kafka) and the cloud (i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure)Performing dimensionality reduction, especially through encodersSelecting features appropriate to a target using bottom-up approaches at scale, like BorutaAutomating the assessment of model validity to drive hyper-parameter tuningTransforming data to create stationary inputs, especially when facing heteroskedasticity, periodicity, and trendsJavaScript frameworks, particularly Angular, jQuery, ReactJS, NodeJS, and MaterialUIInterfacing with RESTful and GraphQL APIsIncorporating, configuring, and customizing charting, mapping, and other visualization capabilities like D3JS, Leaflet, and PlotlyExtract-transform-load (ETL) data pipelines, especially using KNIME, Informatica, Talend, CloverDX, Apache NiFi, or other frameworksDimensional data models and noSQL/graph databasesExperience with distributed stream/message processing, especially using Kafka, Spark, or other distributed platformsExperience visualizing data aggregations to answer specific questions, especially via a dashboard which allows self-service data filtering and exploration (like Qlik, Tableau, QuickSite, or PowerBI)Able to match customer requirements to appropriate technologies and approaches, describe the pros and cons of each option, and provide optimal recommendationsAble to communicate complex technical concepts to external business and technical audiences, and write at a level appropriate for a senior executiveStrong problem-solving skillsAble to work independently and self-identify tasksBy December 8, 2021, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination or obtain an approved exemption as an accommodation.
