DescriptionThe 12 hours rotating shift I/E/A technician is the first responder to operations requests for Instrument, Electrical and Analyzer help during nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to make sound decisions about troubleshooting and repairs during critical and/or abnormal conditions while upholding Valero''s core safety standards and procedures. There is a big emphasis on self-reliance while being able to determine when the task requires to call for assistance or higher expertise. Must be flexible with work schedule as refinery demands may require additional coverage. Strong background in either electrical, instrumentation or analyzer required. Performs visual inspections and calibrations of all CEMS and environmental compliance analyzers by themselves on weekends and holidays. Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical systems and equipment following all safety procedures, electrical codes, manuals, schematic drawings, diagrams, and blueprints. Demonstrates knowledge of basic grounding and shielding, electricity, and electrical wiring and raceway systems. Maintains and repairs various types of electrical components. Demonstrates knowledge of flow, pressure, temperature, level instrumentation, and control power systems. Maintains and troubleshoots various types of switches, meters, indicators, temperature sensors, positioners, controllers, and control valves. Uses test equipment, measuring, and alignment tools to perform assigned work tasks. Possesses knowledge of instrumentation math, units, variables, and dimensions of measurement. Demonstrates ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, and wiring schematics. Plans and coordinates work following appropriate work orders, work permits, and safety instructions. Performs work activities in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Completes all requirements outlined in the Maintenance Department Training and Promotion Policy. Interfaces with the operators, craftspeople, contractors, supervision, and support staff ensuring that work is performed in compliance with all procedures and policies. Operates heavy equipment (fork lift, man lift, scissor, lift, trucks, etc.) Other tasks may be applicable. Acts as Valero representative to sign on work permits for contractors. This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. A minimum of 5 years of refinery maintenance or journeymen level experience working with instrument, electrical or analyzer equipment required. Experience using Microsoft Office software required. Must be able to write a standard paragraph and perform basic mathematics required. Must be able to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawing and electrical one lines drawing required. Demonstrated ability to organize, and execute work in a safe and environmentally sound manner and have good written and verbal communications skills required. Thorough knowledge of all plant safety, operations and environmental policies and procedures required. Current Craftperson "A'' or equivalent experience in instrument, electrical or analyzer group preferred. Must learn all three crafts while accomplishing level A competency in either Instrument/Analyzer or Electrical/Analyzer in a timely manner required. All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). About the Wilmington Refinery The Valero Wilmington Refinery was commissioned in 1969 and has had three major expansions to become a fully integrated refinery and several upgrades to meet clean-fuel standards. The Wilmington refinery processes a blend of California and foreign crude oil, as well as unfinished feedstocks from local and foreign sources. Given its coking and desulfurizing capabilities, it is particularly well-suited to process lower-cost heavy, high-sulfur crude oils and feedstocks. The refinery also produces 15 percent of the asphalt supply in southern California. Refined products are distributed from the Wilmington refinery through a network of third-party pipelines and terminals in southern California, Nevada and Arizona, and then on to wholesale and retail customers.
