Security Officer I - Security - AdventHealth Apopka Work Hours/Shift: Scheduled days and hours will vary Top Reasons to Work at AdventHealth Apopka: AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites and a catheterization lab The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and on-site fire station The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades You Will Be Responsible For: Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth Orlando''s service standards. Supports all department/organization policies and administrative decisions Performs all security related tasks as assigned by Supervisor, and keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events Acknowledges and responds to alarms, determines source of alarm and provides proper assistance Learns applicable systems and responds to safety needs as directed by Security leadership. Properly utilizes and maintains all issued and operated equipment. Operates radio equipment, knows and understands radio codes, and complies with all applicable laws and department policies and procedures Interacts with the public, customers, and other officers in a professional manner and provides assistance as directed including, but not limited to security escorts. Assists and helps coordinate special events Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Security Officers, and Security Operations Center to report irregularities from department/organization policy and to obtain further information and instructions Provides initial direction and support as needed in emergency situations. Performs facility lockdown as dictated, and screens visitors and employees seeking entry after hours Documents all crimes, incidents and safety-related irregularities per department policy and procedure. Exhibits good judgment during critical situations and always maintains a professional and authoritative demeanor. Assesses situations with consideration for age of individuals involved. Gathers information pertaining to incidents such as thefts, accidents, etc., and accurately completes appropriate documents in the correct format Intercedes in disputes, both physical and verbal, between persons using verbal de-escalation techniques and skills, and defuses potentially violent patient, employee, or visitor situations. Manages and addresses aggressive behavior utilizing authorized training techniques Reviews and utilizes knowledge department policies, SOPs, work instructions, training and other communications. Attends and participates in all required in-services. Maintains current licenses and certificates and provides documentation to supervisor in a timely manner. Completes annual compliance training requirements Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the level of training attained Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as approved by Security Management. These may include transport and release of bodies from the morgue; patient escort; elevator recall checks; monthly fire extinguisher, panic alarm, and intercom checks; and special event setups Officers are required to use force when appropriate to protect our customers and associates within organization policy May float to various campuses to provide security support Performs other duties as assigned QualificationsWhat You Will Need: Required: Ability to read accurately and comprehend, write clearly, and understand in a manner to effectively complete legal reports, narratives, and follow simple directions. Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, penal codes, vehicular codes, radio codes, reports, memos, communications, policies, and other required written materials. Ability to actively listen and communicate effectively through clear speech and hearing Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and communication devices and perform all aspects of the job safely without imposing risk to self and/or others Computer literacy with ability to use basic hospital/security applications and information management systems Good critical thinking skills, and ability to set and quickly reset priorities Ability to work and train in an environment with occurring periods of crisis and stress Ability to recognize faces Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients, visitors and/or employees Applicable state driver''s license and driving record in accordance with AdventHealth policy Meets departmental testing (Mental, Physical, etc.) if applicable to facility International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Training certification or equivalent certification. Must be acquired within six months of hire Preferred: Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Windows, Word and Excel Knowledge of Access Control and CCTV systems Understanding of Emergency Management principle Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Organization provided de-escalation certification Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Security Department''s chain of command, the Security Officer I perform security services through interaction with the public, patients, and employees. Provides security at specific locations, responds to security issues, provides access assistance as requested, reports suspicious circumstances and emergencies, and completes other duties as assigned. Responsible for protection of designated areas to ensure the safety of the public, patients, employees, and property of AdventHealth. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
