The Opportunity: This is an entry level internship position for a qualified electrical engineering BS or MS candidate with a career interest in power distribution and/or energy storage technology. The job will entail significant learning on the job with rapid skill development expected. Develop and maintain expert operating knowledge of electrical equipment (e.g., inverters, batteries, etc.) used in battery energy storage system (BESS) applications and of electrical equipment used in general energy storage applications. Develop and maintain working operating knowledge of DER.OS software as it pertains to the operation and control of Enel X ESS equipment. Provides expert second tier support to remote field operations and to the Network Operations Center (NOC). Assists with the design and development, or identification and selection of hardware. Works with system architects, software developers, and product managers to maintain awareness of future developments for the purposes of proactively directing design and maintenance of a test laboratory. Participates in performing system hardware and software testing in the laboratory. What You''ll Do at Enel: Responsibilities, include, but not limited to:Develop and maintain expert operating knowledge of particular electrical BESS equipment (e.g. inverters, battery systems, etc.) used in Enel X energy storage applications. Includes developing and maintaining good working relationships with equipment manufacturers.Develop and maintain general knowledge of electrical equipment used in general energy storage applications.Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior level engineers, managers, executives, and customers on large-scale, high-impact projectsCollaborative teamwork is requiredDevelop and maintain working operating knowledge of Enel X DER-OS software as it pertains to the operation and control of the equipment.Provide factory-based support to remote field operations and the Network Operations Center (NOC) when deeper knowledge of the hardware and software systems is required.Performs critical reviews of Field site CAD balance-of-plant drawings and provides feedbackParticipate in selecting off-the-shelf energy storage system hardware components or R&D lab test equipment that meets technical and business needs.Assist as needed in laboratory experiments and tests that may be led and/or requested by other engineers. Could develop lab test fixtures under direction of lead HW engineer. Present data sets and/or technical solution alternatives to peers, partners, and customers. Respond in real time to concerns, answer questions, and generate logical alternatives in a knowledgeable and articulate mannerContribute to fielded/site electrical designs primarily through plan reviews from the perspective of expert equipment knowledge.Work with and adhere to Agile development philosophies for any production software and hardware solutions: Participate in product development daily face-to-face stand-up meetings to report progress and issues. Makes continuous priority adjustments in plans per agreed schedule vs. scope tradeoffs during Sprint cycles. Ability to understand business requirements and develop technical requirements for designs; includes specifying hardware, drafting block diagrams with interconnection and electrical safety schema, and defining interactive software capabilities required. Influences consistent collaborative development with software engineers in a reciprocal peer relationship.Collaborates with the team of engineers to set new directions as new technologies present themselves to improve the product and engineering department. Who You Are: BS, Electrical Engineering Senior or Grad student; with industrial automation and/or power engineering focusPower distribution engineering or inverter knowledge and operation experience a plusExperience with embedded microprocessor systems, standalone applications, and web-based systems is highly desiredAutoCAD experience is preferred.
