Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Relief Operator (RO) (Non-exempt) Location: Palm Springs, CA (Sentinel Energy Center)Type of position: Full time Date: 2-16-2021 Job Summary: The Relief Operator (RO) supports plant operations by completing multiple levels of Qualifying steps. Once completing the SEC Standard Qualification requirement, the RO will be required to support shift coverage for planned vacations, sick leave, and emergency call-outs. The RO plays a vital support role during planned outage(s) of all major equipment while working directly with Maintenance, IC&E, and Operations Technicians. In the event of an OPS turnover, the RO will promote into the Operations Technician modified DuPont schedule rotation. Normal daily duties will include monitoring the status of all plant systems, supporting routine plant operations, responding to alarms and abnormal conditions by taking appropriate corrective actions, ZLD Operations, and performing routine maintenance tasks. The RO carries out these tasks in accordance with Plant Operating and Maintenance procedures and associated vendor and manufacturer technical procedures. Job Dimensions: Supervision Received:The RO reports to the Operations and Maintenance Manager. The RO works in coordination with other plant personnel. Supervision Exercised: None The RO gives direction to temporarily assigned (including subcontractor) personnel on matters pertaining to plant safety, operations and maintenance. Job Responsibilities: Physical requirements include: working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required. This position requires working in 8 hour shifts Monday - Friday with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On Call" status may be required. This position operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently under general direction and minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed operating procedures and guidelines. The position encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. This position must effectively communicate information to supervisory and fellow plant personnel relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement. The RO must ensure that duties are performed in such a way as to create an optimum cost-benefit ratio. All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customers'' needs are being met. PRIMARY DUTIES Perform Maintenance and Operator position duties; responding to abnormal and emergency conditions in the most effective manner, complying with all safety and environmental requirements. Continuously monitor system and component conditions, evaluating those conditions to determine plant and equipment performance. Maintain all plant equipment to meet plant dispatch requirements. Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Operations Technician or O&M Manager, as applicable. Assist in conducting acceptance and performance tests on existing or new plant equipment. Perform emergency activities to maintain electric service and safeguard station equipment as required. Perform basic mechanical maintenance duties such as predictive and preventative maintenance, replacing basic parts (filters, gaskets, etc.), and repacking bearings. Perform the tasks of opening, closing, racking, resetting, and routine maintenance on breakers and switch gear up to 220 kV. Conduct basic trouble shooting and analysis on indication and control equipment. Collect and analyze "trending" information to evaluate equipment performance and to forecast possible equipment failures. Assist in and support major maintenance on plant equipment that is conducted by outside contractors. Assist in physical inventories. Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventative/predictive maintenance records. Maintain complete equipment files, logs, drawings, and schematics for all designated equipment. Operate plant and rental vehicles such as Aerial Lifts and Forklift plete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager, as applicable.Maintain assigned working locations in a neat and orderly condition.Qualification:1. High school graduate or equivalent, and trade school, related military service training programs, or technical training school programs.2. Strong mechanical ability and aptitude. 3. Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.4. Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.5. Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.6. Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.7. Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.8.
