APPLICATION ACCEPTED FROM: SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT ONLY to include Probationary Employees Division / Section: North / South OperationsWorkdays & Hours: Shift work to include mandatory overtime, weekends, holidays and disaster recovery ***subject to change*** DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe purpose of the Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is to provide solid waste services to the citizens of Houston through the collection, disposal, recycling of discarded material in a manner that is safe, efficient, environmentally sound, and cost-effective. Candidates'' with experience operating a Rear Steer Loader Truck preferred. Will be responsible for loading bulk waste, tree waste and junk onto a Tractor Trailer Truck daily to be transported to the designated sites such as (i.e., landfills, neighborhood depository sites, transfer stations, and resource recovery facilities). Candidate must understand how to operator the following device and safety equipment (i.e., two-way radio, fire extinguishers, road reflectors and personal safety equipment). Must provide own safety shoes. May perform other duties as assigned. An acceptable clear driving record is required. Essential job duties and responsibilities for the (Equipment Operator III) includes but not limited to: Cleans and services equipment. Prepares a daily report of pletes and submits records on check in time, number and tonnage of loads, amount of fuel used, and odometer readings.Performs pre, mid-day, post-trip maintenance inspections and all other related vehicle checks and operator services such as (i.e., fluid levels, air pressures, washing vehicles, etc.)WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make fairly complex coordinated and sequenced motor movements in response to quickly changing external stimuli.
