Supportive housing is a combination of affordable housing (that we build) paired with services, like case management. We don''t just help people find housing. Avalon is looking for a talented and dedicated candidate with financial and accounting expertise to fill the role of Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will lead the Finance Department by working closely with staff to deliver excellent professional services to all Avalon''s stakeholders while overseeing Avalon''s complex financial management systems. The ideal candidate has a growth and flexible mindset and is committed to lifelong learning to bring a positive impact on Avalon''s mission. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Administration. Core Responsibilities Include: General Accounting Be an expert on every aspect of our accounting system, and then play a hands-on role, as needed, for the following tasks and transactions: payroll, accounts payable, revenue and expense accrual, fixed assets, billing and accounts receivable, bank reconciliations. Monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements. Performs routine and complex accounting activities, such as cost allocation, requiring advanced knowledge of accounting principles and applicable regulations. Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal and local regulations. Continuously monitor and improve current processes, based on evolving Avalon''s needs, in collaboration with other departments and teams. Provide high quality and pleasant client assistance to ad hoc requests, such as drafting program budget for grant applications, payroll questions, and urgent disbursement needs. Reporting, Monitoring, Compliance Play a lead role in annual audit and tax return work and ensure their timely completion. Develop, monitor and continuously improve financial policies, practices, and procedures across all programs and entities in accordance with a number of program and regulatory requirements. Prepare accurate, timely, reliable, relevant, and complete financial status reports and analysis to be used for monitoring and billing purposes for programs and legal entities. Work with other teams and departments within the organization to develop and monitor annual and multi-year budgets. Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants. Provide oversight and management of third-party vendors and consultants where needed. Staff Management and Development Support our high performing team and mutually nurture professional development. Provide necessary support for interns and volunteers. Ensure staff are adequately cross-trained to perform all routine and essential accounting tasks. Support Director of Finance and Administration and department staff in setting and meeting department objectives. Organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines working within prescribed time and resource constraints. Provide ongoing feedback and supervision for finance department staff as assigned. Desired Qualifications & Experience Bachelor''s degree in Accounting or equivalent education & experience. Active CPA license designation is strongly preferred. At least 5 years'' experience in multi-entity corporate accounting and finance At least 4 years'' experience in nonprofit accounting. At least 4 years'' experience in leading a team of accounting and finance professionals is preferred Experience with federal grant management. Experience with cost allocation for multi-entity organizations with various funding sources. Track record of successfully managing multiple projects/tasks while meeting day-to-day individual and team responsibilities Track record of achieving outcomes with excellent resource management. Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Strong technology working knowledge to maximize the benefit of available applications and software. No Status: Salaried, Exempt Avalon offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our current starting range for the position is $71,000 - $74,000 depending on the candidate''s experience in similar roles and your expertise related to the qualifications. We negotiate actual salaries with final candidates and offer this guidance in support of our commitment to transparency.
