With our combined resources CommonSpirit is committed to building healthy communities advocating for those who are poor and vulnerable and innovating how and where healing can happen both inside our hospitals and out in the community.ResponsibilitiesProvides leadership as a role model and mentor in promoting palliative care.Demonstrates strong communication skills while maintaining a calm and effective behavior during stressful situations.Available as a consultant to patients, families, physicians and staff regarding palliative care.Collaborates with palliative care medical director and all providers. Promotes quality and service excellence in all aspects of patient care. Initiates outcome measures and quality indicators. Contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues by sharing palliative care knowledge and skills, educating in the acute care setting and community-based groups and facilities.Assists with oversight and planning of the Palliative Care Committee meetings. Assists with the Palliative Care budget and maintains ongoing review of resources to include ARNP billing and documentation status. Acts as a liaison and advocate for home care, hospice, and long term care services.Triages patient consults and utilizes critical thinking skills to problem solve challenges and conflicting demands.Participates in self-directed learning and education to meet own professional development.Maintains oversight of the Palliative Care Clinic to include promoting services and expertise with outpatient clinic regulations. MARGINAL Functions:Seeks and coordinates potential grants/additional funding opportunities.Partners with community resources to promote Palliative Care knowledge and education.QualificationsMinimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa. Bachelor degree in nursing required, or actively in pursuit of BSN degree (accepted into a BSN Program and/or currently enrolled). Expected to take at least six credits per year at Director''s discretion for exception.Certification in area of specialty preferred or achieved within 2 years of being in role.Valid Driver''s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy''s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.Five (5) years of end of life care, hospice care, or related nursing experience.ELNEC (End of Life Nursing course) trained or willing to complete within a designated time period.Excellent communication skills.Presentation skills with small and large groups, including a mix of both public and professional audience.
