About the roleThis is an opportunity to come in at the ground level for an early stage team innovating quickly at the intersection of biology and computational engineering. We are working to push the boundaries of what is possible in a rapidly evolving field. The Principal Fermentation Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of our fermentation strategy. They will have the opportunity to creatively build a fermentation program that accelerates our team''s objectives. The fermentation engineer will be passionate about implementing new technologies for the generation of high quality fermentation data.The position requires an in-depth understanding of engineering and processing issues as well as practical and hands-on experience with setting up and maintaining small- to medium-scale bioreactors. A general knowledge of the types of fermentation data which can inform computational models would be helpful for success in this role.How you will make 10x impact:Lead implementation of new fermentation processes.Lead the operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of bioreactors through experimental design, planning and execution.Maintain safety in the operation of the bioreactors.Oversee equipment selection, modification, procurement, installation and start up in relation to fermentation municate findings to internal project teams and management.What you should have: MS in chemical engineering, bioengineering or related field of study5-10 years of relevant industry experience running bioreactorsIn depth technical expertise in operating and optimizing bench scale bioreactorsDemonstrated hands-on experience of running bench scale microbial fermentation processesAt X, we don''t just accept difference - we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our products and our community.
