Job Description

This job performs various diagnostic ultrasound examinations under the direction of a radiologist in the outpatient and inpatient environment. Compiles history and diagnostic information from the Ultrasound examination and presents the Radiologist with preliminary sonographic findings. Education Required - High School diploma or equivalentWork ExperienceRequired - None.CertificationsRequired - Certification by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the areas of Abdominal and OB-Gyn ultrasound or Cardiac SonographyBasic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationRegistered Vascular Technologist (RVT) Certification within two years of hireKnowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care processMust have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of informationMust be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboardKnowledge of the anatomy of the liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, and pancreas to perform abdominal ultrasound and the pathology of these organs to provide radiologists with a preliminary diagnosisJob Duties• Utilizes consistent techniques to accurately gather relevant information from the patient, medical record, significant others and health care providers.• Selects appropriate equipment and set-up based on procedure protocol, specifications and standards.• Selects, prepares and sets up ultrasound equipment and supplies including transducers.• Performs timely and appropriate inspections to ensure equipment is properly calibrated in accordance with manufacturer and/or department protocol and guidelines.• Corrects persistent coding issues with referring providers and departments.• Demonstrates responsibility for professional development and learning map.• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.Other related duties as required.
