Overview Graham Packaging has the goal of solidifying its position as the leading product and process solution innovator in the plastic container manufacturing industry. The PET Process Development team is focused on translating product functional requirements (load bearing performance, material weight, hot-fill performance, etc.) into robust manufacturing processes. They do this by thoroughly understanding PET material properties, simulating bottle formation, and developing process recipes with a deep understanding of in-process measurement.The Staff Mechanical Engineer, Process R&D ("Engineer") is hands-on and technically sound in the use of physics and calculations to guide insights into industrial equipment processes. The Engineer has a background in mechanical engineering and experimental mechanics with work experience in manufacturing, and has demonstrable credentials in the use of technical fundamentals and technological innovation in heavy industrial equipment such as injection molding, stamping, machining, etc. The position is located at Graham Packaging''s Global Technology Center in York, PA. Responsibilities Responsibilities:Perform technical calculations for physical behavior of products and systems in the process, including but not limited to heat transfer, energy balance, fluid dynamics and structural mechanics, and apply such methods to trouble-shooting or refining process behavior;Collaborate extensively with Simulation Engineers to model behavior metrics for ranges of material and process recipe variations, and use experimental measurement techniques to sharpen such models;Innovate in the process measurement and predictability arena by creating new methods and tools;Develop process workflow architectures to best exploit physics-based improvements in plastic injection stretch blow molding process;Utilize process performance data being collected from in-line sensing and measurement systems, including feedback loop circuits, PLCs and Factory IoT data structures to drive improvements;Build strong relationships with key internal partners (e.g., vertical segment leaders, project management, engineering, operations, ) Qualifications Core Proficiencies and SkillsStrong fundamental knowledge of the physical interaction mechanisms (e.g., force, heat transfer, ) that impact manufacturing processes and product behavior in various environments.Technical solidity in the use of physics equations and simple models for phenomena associated with manufacturing processes, such as in injection molding and stretch blow bottle formationExperience in heavy equipment process engineering, including deep conceptual understanding of the behavior of the product being fed through the Demonstrated prior contributions in manufacturing process improvement using fundamental technical methods (structural, mechanical, thermal, )Develop and nurture third party partnership and supplier relationships to further internal knowledge, methods, and Results-oriented, energetic, and resourceful, with a strong service orientation and positive can-do Fully committed to the job and to deliver outstanding work - continually striving for excellence.Hands-on approach to industrial problem solving, including willingness to work with shop floor and process engineers to resolve Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information and communicate effectively to a wide Demonstrated commitment to safety, with unquestioned ethics, integrity andEducation and/or Work Experience Requirements: Bachelor''s in Engineering, with a strong preference for background spanning Manufacturing Engineering and Experimental Mechanics5-10 years industrial experience in heavy equipment for industrial applications5 years demonstrated experience with Test Development and Experimental MethodsTechnology leadership in a functional area related to manufacturing processesExperienced forming and exploiting technical partnershipsExperience in the plastic conversion industry highly preferredLI-JR1 EEO Disclaimer Graham Packaging is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
