Job Description

The Company seeks a dynamic and entrepreneurial expert on the role and potential of nonprofit and philanthropic institutions to serve as vice president and leader of the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy. The vice president will report to the Company Institute''s president and senior vice presidents, and will be responsible for all aspects of the management of CNP and NCCS, including: developing and advancing a strategic vision for the center''s scope and focus; leading a diverse and interdisciplinary, creative team; shaping and overseeing CNP''s portfolio of research, philanthropic advising, and other engagement activities; raising funds from government, foundations, individuals, and corporate donors; and cultivating partnerships with community, academic, nonprofit, and business groups.Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & VisionDevelop and implement a clear vision and strategy for broadening and deepening CNP''s capacity to inform and influence both philanthropic and nonprofit practice, and public policy pertaining to nonprofits and spire and nurture an environment in which CNP researchers and policy experts can think boldly and ambitiously"”in collaboration with funders and stakeholders"”to build and grow compelling research and other programs.Champion the building of an increasingly diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in CNP and across Company.Proactively identify opportunities that support the needs and ideas of internal and external stakeholders, advance policy program goals and solutions, and support Institute-wide anizational & People ManagementManage, guide, and supervise CNP staff on projects, center operations, and organizational initiatives, including setting clear direction and performance expectations, building team skills, and assessing progress.Serve as an inclusive, transparent leader who engages in authentic dialogue around issues of race and equity and seeks to build and grow a diverse team and body of work.Develop and implement policies and practices that support staff growth, creating intentional pathways for professional development and advancement at all levels.Provide support to CNP senior experts to help them serve as effective internal leaders and managers and manage staff resources efficiently and effectively.Create organizational structures that promotes efficiency, internal equity, equal or improved access, and innovation, and fosters a culture oriented around staff well-being and growth.Develop and execute operational plans consistent with budgetary goals and working with staff across initiatives.Manage CNP''s budget in adherence to organizational guidelines and protocols.Execute, report on, and measure CNP''s contributions to major projects and organizational initiatives.Manage effective and collegial relationships with other Company teams - communications, technology and data science, development, human resources, business operations, the executive office, and other research centers - to develop partnerships, seed innovations, support intersecting research, promote business development, and lead diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.Business Development & External EngagementCultivate new external partnerships and collaborate with the CNP team and Company leadership to manage relationships with multiple funders, expand funding opportunities, and ensure a robust and diverse funding pipeline.Steward existing bodies of work, helping them grow and take advantage of opportunities for policy impact and fundraising success.Empower and engage CNP researchers in the recognition of emerging trends and needs and the development of innovative research and programs that broaden the organization''s scope and attract new funders.Support and enhance CNP outreach and external engagement strategies, ensuring effective distribution of center products.Maintain a public presence as an expert on a variety of topics related to nonprofits and philanthropy, including participating in events and responding to media requests.Maintain strong collaborative relationships across diverse institutions in order to represent CNP among government, business, media, and academic leaders.Research Management & Content ExpertiseOversee quality assurance activities Center-wide to ensure high-quality products are delivered on time and within budget.Ensure that CNP staff have the resources and support necessary to continue developing transformative work.Act as a risk-management resource to staff to troubleshoot project-specific issues and concerns.What you''ll bring: The successful candidate will demonstrate:Entrepreneurial leadership and strategic thinking.Ability to engage in racial equity work internally with center staff, externally in the spaces in which Company operates, and more broadly across Company, weaving that perspective throughout the definition of problems, analysis, solutions, and engagement.Deep knowledge of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors from the perspective of a practitioner and/or researcher.Ability to develop, communicate, and implement a clear strategic vision that provides direction while allowing competing points of view and perspectives to be heard and valued.A track record of fundraising/business development and experience working with funders, including providing advisory or consultative services.Personal alignment with Company''s belief that creativity and intellectual growth thrives in an environment that welcomes differences in viewpoints, backgrounds, and experiences.A management style that is open and consultative with a focus on team building and creating a culture of belonging and inclusion.Ability to lead in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment that is undergoing change and growth while it works to develop research-informed solutions to some of society''s most pressing pelling and thoughtful communication style that meets the needs of internal and external audiences and engenders trust and collaboration.Strong understanding of policy and the policy-making process and a point of view about how research can drive action and forward progress.An understanding of how to lead and guide the application of quantitative and qualitative research methods and designs.Ability to help Company experts bring an equity and inclusion lens to their work, weaving that perspective throughout the definition of problems, analysis, solutions, and engagement.
