The Clinical Services Division is accepting applications for contract part-time (10-15 hours/week) Breastfeeding Peer Counselors to promote breastfeeding and provide support to breastfeeding mothers and to perform related duties. The contract is renewable on July 1 annually. We cold be waiting for YOU! Status : Part-Time (10-15 hours/week) Contract Positions Pay Rate : $12.00/Hour Reports To : Nutrition Supervisor Detailed Description: This position must be available to work between 10 and 15 hours/week providing basic breastfeeding information and counseling to assist WIC clients with preventing and handling common breastfeeding problems and concerns, while referring exceptional cases to the appropriate professional. Most counseling will be provided to WIC mothers at the hospital birthing center following delivery. The rest of the counseling will be provided by telephone from home but some could be provided by home visit, client visit, and/or community visit based on the client''s needs. Attendance is required at monthly staff meetings and state meetings three times per year. Work hours must be flexible enough to meet the needs of breastfeeding clients who are having breastfeeding problems. This includes some evenings and weekends. Essential Functions include, but are not limited to: Manages a caseload of breastfeeding and pregnant mothers . (Follows up on referrals received. Contacts mothers per established protocol. Terminates clients as per protocol.) Educates and counsels. (Promotes breastfeeding. Provides basic breastfeeding information. Assists clients with preventing and handling common breastfeeding problems and concerns. Refers exceptions to appropriate professional. Assists with prenatal classes, breastfeeding support groups, and health fairs or other community events.) Maintains records. (Documents activities using appropriate forms. Enters data into database(s). Maintains records of client contacts.) Performs other duties. (Participates in internal and external meetings; Completes timecard; Completes travel reports; Completes required training; Completes other assigned reports; Attends work as scheduled.)
