JOB DESCRIPTIONTitle: Entry Level Design EngineerPosition: Non-ExemptLocation: Willernie, MNManager: NoReports to: Engineering ManagerSUMMARY OF ROLE Entry level Design Engineer.The focus of this role will be to execute all engineering activities, working with a team to create, evaluate, and solve for the needs of internal and external customers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProgress to meet scheduled hours and dates of all jobs and tasks. Success will be measured by the goal of completing tasks ahead of schedule based on experienceLearn to communicate directly with customers to understand their needs and create mold designs that meet their requirements Learn to design all types and sizes of molds and equipment for internal and external customersDevelop the ability to provide guidance and support to Production departments Specific Responsibilities: Learn how to interpret, review and analyze project information provided by Program Managers Learn to provide immediate feedback to PM on anything that does not fit scope criteria at any stage of the engineering process Assist with DFM (design for manufacture) and ESI (Early Supplier Involvement) support for internal and external customers Learn to understand the requirements to deliver a mold design that leads to creation of a mold that is within the scope of the project Learn and progress to ensure projects are completed on-time and within budget of allotted engineer hours, understanding level of experienceLearn and understand tooling guidelines, what they are and how to accurately adhere to them, as dictated by both customers and Westfall Learn how to utilize software, design libraries & existing designs to reduce lead times for projects Develop the skills to schedule Preliminary / Process plan reviews w/ appropriate people Develop the skills to deliver complete design packages to Manufacturing on-time and accurately Develop the ability to assure that the quality of work is to the satisfaction of the internal customer (Tool Makers, Programming, Milling, Wire EDM cell, Molding) & Westfall Engineering Guidelines Coordinate with Engineering Manager as needed. Learn to become the first point of contact for ALL engineering related questions on designs you LEAD Learn to create BOM''s and perform data entry for the ERP system EpicorLearn to create inspection reports and documentationLearn location and how to complete appropriate procedures and forms to fulfill ISO 13485 requirementsLearn how to maintain inventory of spare componentsLearn to use strong analytical skills and systems to create and improve the Design processes and proceduresParticipate in weekly Design Engineering team meetingsPerform other duties as requested by ManagementMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONSTwo- or four-year degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design, Engineering, or related fieldNo experience designing injection molds requiredExcellent mechanical aptitude and geometry skills required Organizational abilities a necessity Ability to communicate effectively both written and verballyDemonstrate ability to be team-oriented in actions and work3D Solid Modeling experienceSolidWorks Experience a plus Proficiency in the ability to use Microsoft Suite Software, Excel, Word, PowerPoint or the ability to learn other software as neededStrong work ethic with an unwavering commitment to quality and professional resultsTraining Needed/Provided: Epicor ERP System (onsite)Mold Design and Detailing (onsite)Documentation requirements and file structure systems (onsite)Any other training required will be typically done onsiteESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to sit for extended periods of time, working with a computer and multiple screensMust be able to lift and move up to 50lbs infrequently.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is usually in an office within a manufacturing facility with low to moderate noise level.
