Ability to produce and maintain an acceptable driving record. Notes to Applicants Position Description:This position will supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Substation Electricians that maintain Austin Energy''s substation infrastructure. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Work Schedule: This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin. Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends. Shifts may change according to departmental needs. Other related duties may be assigned.1. Assigns, organizes, and monitors task completion for workgroup.2. Interprets, explains and enforces City policies, procedures, building codes, specifications and ordinances.3. Communicates with schedulers and project managers regarding projects. Works closely with engineering to provide input on design issues.4. Monitors safety issues for work group.5. Supervises the repair, installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, diagnostic analysis, or removal of electric utility substation equipment including substation transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, motor operators, bus work, substation batteries, chargers, and control cabinets.6. Analyzes and troubleshoots various substation alarms and guide substation electricians in appropriate actions necessary to facilitate repairs.7. Provides input into the development of Capital and O&M budgets.8. Assures compliance to ISO registration requirements.Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:Responsible for the full range of employee supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal. Knowledge of Transmission and Substation design and construction standards. Knowledge of applicable Austin Energy and OSHA safety regulations. Knowledge of local environmental requirements for construction and maintenance activities. Knowledge of relaying to understand the zones of protection and function of each type of relay. Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles. Skill in estimating time, material and labor for job assigned. Skill in oral and written communications. Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. Skill in using computers and related software applications. Skill in data analysis and problem solving. Ability to determine the cause of relay operations, clearing of faults and re-energizing of substation after a fault condition. Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, schematics, wiring diagrams, and written specifications. Ability to work in field conditions, temperature extremes, and other inclement weather conditions. Ability to work in hi-voltage environment up to and including 362KV. Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with subordinates, management, city employees, and the public.
