SUMMARY * The Pediatric Weight Management Pediatrician is responsible for providing comprehensive evaluations and management of obesity as a chronic disease with a focus on health and wellness. The Pediatrician will work with a multi-disciplinary team in delivering high comprehensive quality patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions according to standards of practice to children from birth through adolescence. * ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * * Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results and perform physical examinations. * Perform comprehensive health evaluation for patients assessing contributing factors to obesity (including genetic screening) and obesity co-morbidities* Determine appropriate candidates for weight loss medication use and develop a comfort with prescribing and monitoring patients on these medications. * Ensures that the whole child is treated, not just his or her weight, and includes family in the care plan. Engage the patient and family to develop treatment plans that address identified goals including medical plan for co-morbidities.* Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.* Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, administrative staff and community resources in meeting patient and family needs.* Perform evaluation to determine patients candidacy for surgery. * Coordinate a pre-surgical evaluation in collaboration with the surgical team.* Follow these patients post operatively to assess response surgery and monitor co-morbidities. * Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.* Assess, treat and monitor for relevant vitamin deficiencies based on the child''s age and developmental stage.* Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.* Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies.* Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous. improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.* Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.* Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.* May participate in peer review and quality assurance.* Perform other duties as assigned.* Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES * No direct reports but oversees Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs). * EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED * Graduate from accredited school of medicine required* MD or DO Degree* 2 or more years of experience * Bilingual (Spanish / English) is preferred* Successful completion of an approved residency training program.Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Protected Veterans/Disabled
