Our deep brain stimulation technology for progressive diseases help people manage their Parkinson''s disease and essential tremor symptoms, steering away from side effects.Our location in Plano, TX currently has an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design new implantable, electro-mechanical devices in support of Abbott''s strategic plan.WHAT YOU''LL DORepresent Mechanical Engineering within cross-functional project teams and leads functional teamEnsure that program objectives are determined and met, and logistics are effectively coordinatedConceptualize new devices using material knowledge and innovative mechanical designApply fundamental engineering principles and analysis to de-risk a design concept before prototypingDesign empirical studies (including Design of Experiments) and test methods to understand design robustnessCollaborate with outside consultants, vendors, and the medical communityLead and support technical reviews and design reviewsEstablish requirements and specifications and support DHF development and reviewIdentify communicate, and mitigate project risks and issuesEnsure compliance with procedural and documentation requirements of Abbott, FDA and ISO design controlsPosition may require up to 5% travelEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU''LL BRING "‹RequiredBachelor''s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical or equivalent combination of education and work experience.4+ years of relevant product development or R&D experience in a regulated industry.Cross-functional collaboration with other engineering disciplines (Electrical, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, etc.)Experience designing for relevant manufacturing processes (e.g. biocompatible material selection, injection molding, printed circuit board fabrication, extrusion, metal forming, welding)Experience with CAD and FEA modeling software (Solid works/Pro-E)Demonstrated knowledge of sound design principles and practicesDemonstrated knowledge of risk management techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of root cause investigationExperience applying statistical techniques to inform design decisions (e.g. Design for Six Sigma, Design for Manufacturability)Excellent oral and written communication skillsMultitask, prioritize and meet deadlinesPosition may require up to 5% travelPreferredMS DegreeExperience with implantable hardware preferredDemonstrated knowledge of medical device design controls (21 CFR Part 820) and project managementExperience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferredWHAT WE OFFER At Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
