DescriptionPerforms a wide variety of all Human Resources Department duties and functions, and assists employees with questions and problems related to a broad array of human resource issues. Serves as point of contact for assigned HR areas, which may include : employee relations; training, employment, affirmative action, and/or employment equity programs. Resolves/refers employee questions or problems related to any aspect of the Human Resource Department responsibilities. Provides guidance to management and employees on HR-related concerns, coordinates with other departments as needed, and refers complex issues to higher levels. Participates in and assists with conducting effective workplace and incident investigations. Assists with providing recommendations on resolutions. Prepares and provides necessary company reports, including weighted averages analyses as well as overtime, attendance, and headcount forecast data. Reviews data and communicates recommendations to management for corrective action and continuous improvement. Partners with employees and management to communicate various policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations. Assists with special projects, functions, and other needs of the department. Assists employees with leaves of absences and coordinates information with Corporate Leave & Disability department and others as needed. Responsible for managing the New Hire Employee Integration Program, Intern Program, and respective event coordination. Fulfills the hiring needs of assigned departments by completing the recruitment life cycle beginning with posting notices of job vacancies through on-boarding. Maintains accurate records of resumes, applicant flow, and employee selection in accordance with Valero processes, procedures, and policies and appropriate national, state, and local laws and regulations including Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity (among others). Participates in aptitude testing, interviewing, and culling of Operator and Craft candidates, including preparing notice letters for testing, interviews, and rejection. Performs COVID contact tracing with employees/contractors and tracking. Rotates after-hours and weekend on-call schedule with other HR Generalists. Participates and is an ambassador for Valero''s culture of giving through volunteerism and United Way. This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. No experience required. Bachelor''s or higher level degree in Human Resources, Business, or related area preferred. 1 year of professional-level HR generalist experience preferred. PHR certification preferred. Experience with SAP preferred. Experience with Taleo or other applicant tracking systems preferred. Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required. Ability to work late and/or come in when needed required. Ability to participate in an after-hours and weekend on-call schedule required. Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation required. Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications required. Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization required. Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods required. Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes required. Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage department responsibilities required. Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments required. Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements required. Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel) required. All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
