Job DescriptionThis Underwriting Consultant role is for Meritain Health. We are an independentsubsidiary of Aetna and CVS, and one of the nation's largest employee benefitsadministrators. We have the resources of a national carrier coupled with theunique flexibility and devoted service of a third-party administrator (TPA).The Meritain Health underwriting department supports the attainment oforganizational goals through the issuance of prospective and existing businessquotations and proposals. The underwriting consultant performs cost analysisand risk assessment of these cases. Core functions of the underwriting teaminclude administrative fee pricing and stop loss marketing with our Preferredstop loss carrier panel. This role collaborates closely with sales and clientmanagement to create client solutions to reduce the total cost of care.Underwriting Consultants areresponsible for the attainment, retention and profitability of a designated book ofbusiness, exercising administrative fee pricing authority when appropriate.- Prepares and issues quotations and financial deliverables for prospective andexisting business while meeting established departmental TAT goals- Department deliverables include but are not limited to: proposals(administrative fee and stop loss), questionnaire responses, follow-up questions,specific stop loss ratios, aggregate projections, leveraged trend analysis,COBRA rates, and current/renewal rate analysis- Complexity of work increases as technical skills progress- Independently reviews work for accuracy- Has a clear understanding of the Meritain products and services and ourpricing procedures in order to effectively price and create recommendations- Recommends pricing and/or product alternatives based on financial analysis,underwriting principles, andbusiness strategy- Anticipates questions from customers (internal and external) with the ability toformulate clear and concise responses and recommendations- Utilizes advanced functionality of underwriting tools, systems, and referencematerials to produce accurate deliverables- Applies underwriting guidelines and grants underwriting exceptions/financialvariances for their assigned cases within the authority limit for the position- Independently assists sales and client management personnel in explainingrate/fee and communication of underwriting and stop loss policies- May present information to employers, brokers and consultants upon request- Manages concessions within an established book of business targetssupporting organizational goals- Provides consultative support to sales and client management for underwritingrelated questions and issues and providing guidance as requested- Fostering productive relationships with sales, client management, stop losspartners, and internal colleagues- Local distribution and articulation of Meritain's Total Cost of Care valueproposition to internal partners in sales/client management and external stoploss partnersRequired Qualifications :COVID Vaccine Required :COVID Requirements :Preferred Qualifications :Education :Business Overview :- Ensures the administrative fee pricing and stop loss marketing supports thesales/retention strategy- Responsible for the entry of final sold rates and the rate approval process withRev Op's and Implementation- Identifies and supports process improvement through automation or processchange- Tracks workflow and pricing discretion in Salesforce with self-auditing ofreporting efforts- Supports the department with projects, workgroups, workshare efforts, andtechnical training/mentoring and/or peer reviewRequired Qualifications- High School Diploma Required- Demonstrated success in collaborating with others to meet/exceedexpectations- Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical and independent thinking skills- Experience providing clear and concise written and verbal communications- Moderate Excel skillsCOVID RequirementsCOVID-19 Vaccination RequirementCVS Health requires certain colleagues to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (including any booster shots if required), where allowable under the law, unless they are approved for a reasonable accommodation based on disability, medical condition, religious belief, or other legally recognized reasons that prevents them from being vaccinated.
