Job DescriptionThe Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a leader on the Agile Release Train (ART), a team of teams (50-125 people) that plan, commit, develop, and deploy software together to deliver significant value to CVS end customers. This is an instrumental leadership role in the oversight and execution of Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) initiatives that generates multimillion-dollar business value to the organization and touch millions of consumers every year. RTEs are accountable for relentless train improvement and for ensuring transparency about the ART's delivery, risks, and accomplishments. Key duties as follows: Drives train processes, ensuring teams have everything they need to successfully build the product and helps coach the ART in Scrum, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Acts as the train's focal point for communication and connections with all impacted teams needed to deliver on the work (SAFe trains, agile teams not on trains, waterfall teams, vendor partners, suppliers, etc.) Leads train meetings and processes, including Agile ceremonies Plans and facilitates the train's quarterly Program Increment (PI) planning event Ensures prioritization alignment, resolves conflicts, and clears cross-team/ART-level impediments and risks Sets the tone in shaping the train's culture, as an empathetic servant leader fostering an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, relentless improvement, and fun without "Command and Control" style Coaches train leaders, team leads, and team members (including scrum masters) in Lean-Agile practices and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Create and provide educational videos for routine SAFe practices and/or Rally task required by the SFAE Product Organization. Utilizes feedback and metrics (quality, delivery rate, etc.) to identify and implement process improvements across the train and measures the results Manage all PI Planning deliverables of commitments such as Epic, Features, Milestones, Iteration Deliverables, Dependencies internal and external to the SAFe train, and, VP level leader communications for escalations Manages the train's backlog and work in progress for improvement initiatives to reduce lead times and bottlenecks in the value stream Manages train budget and spend through forecasting, resource allocation and monitoring, in partnership with finance, product, and procurement Fosters innovation with best practices and frameworks through experimentation to improve program delivery Optimizes the flow of value through the ART using various tools, such as the Program Board and score cards Tracks and reports on progress of epic, feature, costs, benefits etc. using appropriate tools (Rally, etc.) across the train and with solution/ portfolio senior leadership and business partnersRequired Qualifications 3-5+ years' experience as RTE (preferred), Scrum Master (minimum), Product Owner, or Product Manager Experience managing multiple Scrum Masters and/r Product Owners Experience with consumer-facing SaaS products and/or building platforms Strong technical aptitude and experience leading teams in delivering quality software Demonstrated ability to facilitate large planning and solutioning sessions. Demonstrated ability to facilitate weekly SAFE ceremonies: ART Sync, Stakeholders Communication and SoS Understanding of Agile at scale philosophies & methodologies. Experience working in an Agile organization using Scrum, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or other scaling model Experience using Agile best practices, i.e., burn-down charts, different retrospective formats, defect management, user stories, ATDD, TDD, BDD, CI/CD, automated testing, etc.COVID RequirementsCOVID-19 Vaccination RequirementCVS Health requires certain colleagues to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (including any booster shots if required), where allowable under the law, unless they are approved for a reasonable accommodation based on disability, medical condition, religious belief, or other legally recognized reasons that prevents them from being vaccinated.
