We boldly go.This Senior Engineering Manager, Applied Mechanics, Modeling and Simulation, will plan and supervise the implementation of simulation and test methods to develop quiet and reliable Transport Refrigeration product designs, and to address structural integrity, acoustic, vibration, and fluid flow problems with existing products. Potential focus areas include durability modeling and testing, fatigue, rotating machinery, structural dynamics, vibration, acoustic simulation and testing, component (engine, compressor, and blower) noise, acoustic transmission and radiation, acoustic mitigation methods, and product performance simulation. Work closely with various product and technology development teams, and with global engineering support center personnel around the globe.This role provides a great opportunity for global engagement, leading an established team with state-of-the-art simulation tools in Applied Mechanics. Flexible work from home options available. Relocation may be available. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (others may be added): Manage 10-20 engineers (direct and indirect). Support and carry out the advancement and growth of the Applied Mechanics, Modeling and Simulation Team, as well as the Applied Mechanics Laboratory. The scope encompasses technology in both computational and experimental tools and methodologies applicable to Transport Refrigeration products. Plan and supervise work related to developing simulation models for structural reliability, acoustics, and fluid flow. The scope includes prediction of stress, vibration, sound radiation, fluid flow and product performance using 1D and 3D simulation tools. Plan and supervise various durability, acoustic and vibration tests, including but not limited to: strain gage, tensile, shaker vibration, structural modal analysis, steady state and transient vibration, rotating machinery, sound pressure and sound power, 2D and 3D sound intensity, transmission loss, acoustic material properties, gas pulsation, and transfer path analysis, . Act as a member of the various product and technology development teams to design reliable and quiet products. Responsibilities include understanding requirements, managing resource deployment, work management, and assuring that project deliverables are met. Work closely with simulation, test engineers and technicians. Responsibilities include understanding and prioritizing simulation and test requests, designing and proposing the appropriate simulation and test, discussing and supervising simulation and test implementations, assuring the validity of the data and its interpretation, and documenting the work in formal reports. Support and successfully accomplish annual corporate objectives for individuals and teams. Support and successfully accomplish business QDC targets. Effectively utilize personal project management techniques and utilize the available technical skills and resources necessary for success. Be a strong team player. Work closely and mentor other engineering resources globally. Act as a representative to promote the concepts of structural reliability, acoustics, and fluid flow design and how they relate to product designs.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor''s Degree in Applied Mechanics, or Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant work experience required. Master''s degree is preferred.ESSENTIAL SKILLS or KNOWLEDGE: Formal coursework or previous experience in structural dynamic, acoustics, vibration, structural mechanics, and digital signal processing required. Strong experience in Applied Mechanics simulation methods is required. Familiar with durability testing, noise and vibration engineering, or closely related field. Knowledge in the design, simulation, testing, and optimization for durability, reliability, sound, vibration and/or flow characteristics of machinery. Knowledge and experience in correlating simulations models and test data are required. Strong teamwork, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills required. Must be able to work on multiple high-priority projects simultaneously. Experience in structural and acoustic data acquisition systems, both hardware and software, as well as mechanical strain measurement, are preferred. Experience in LMS Test. Lab would be considered a plus. Experience or knowledge in Siemens SimCenter, HYPERWORKS, MSC Suite, and ANSYS would be considered a plus. Experience in Transport Refrigeration products, engines, fans and compressors is preferred.We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits and programs.
