OverviewWe are currently searching for a Laboratory Technician to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Baltimore, MD. Duties & Responsibilities Receive and log samples Maintain specimen integrity and verify accuracy of all information Familiarity in working with proteins Assign a unique lab sequence number to each specimen according to protocols; assess each specimen for condition liquid or frozen, quantity adequate or not adequate, and appearance normal, hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic Comply with laboratory SOPs, regulatory and safety guidelines and environmental policies and procedures; adhere to SOP and CAP regulations for data input in laboratory information systems, storage, and retrieval for information Compose and edit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Biorepository in accordance with NIH standards Addendum to Position Description Statement of Work for Emergency Management Responsibilities. The following responsibilities may be assigned to a contract employee of this position. Verification of whether a contract employee will be assigned these duties is to be obtained from the first level of management of the position. In an emergency, contract employee is available to the best of his/her abilities to perform his/her assigned duties to ensure the continuity of NIAs critical core functions as appropriate. Emergencies can range from inclement weather or a building fireflood to a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Because emergencies can happen at any time, the contract employee will provide all updated personal contact information cell and home telephone numbers, home email address, personal blackberry pin number if applicable, etc. to Kelly Government Solutions (KGS) to ensure rapid response in the event of an emergency outside of regular business hours. As an emergency staff member, the contract employee will perform his/her assigned duties as requested to help protect NIAs critical resources e.g., staff, patients, animals, research, property, and help to ensure the continuation of NIA Critical Core Functions. The core functions include: Maintenance of employee safety Care for clinical patients, including monitoring and oversight of Advanced Studies in Translational Research on Aging ASTRA study participants Care and feeding of animals Maintenance of physical security Maintenance of mission critical laboratory and clinical experiments and scientific equipment Safeguarding perishable laboratory samples and biological stock Preservation and protection of NIA information systems and data Continue to make awards to grantees to enable maintenance of essential research functions Maintenance of administrative functions including acquisitions, timekeeping, payroll, benefits, budget, and records Communication with NIA researchers and grantees; NIH and various Institutes and Centers; other government agencies; private sector partnering organizations; and key stakeholders Serving as a member of the NIA Crisis Response Team CRT The core functions the contract employee will be expected to support are those that relate to his her assigned duties as outlined in the position description statement of work Review and maintain equipment records and ensure completion of equipment maintenance according to established schedules; troubleshoot equipment problems; communicate with laboratory staff Ensure that reagents are made correctly and that expired reagents or defective products are replaced to ensure validity of patient results Bar-code and aliquot specimens with appropriate speed and accuracy Perform PBMCs procedure from human blood on various studies Work with NIA Core Lab Clinical Core Unit to implement storage and distribution of biological samples including blood, urine, tissue, and saliva in the Biorepository for future scientific research Store new samples, update database, and upkeep sample and database inventory; monitor and overall sample inventory Coordinate with other laboratories for receiving and shipping specimens and reports Operate and maintain a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory instruments and equipment in the collection, processing, description, and analysis of specimens according to manufacturer guidelines and corporate departmental procedures Communicate with manager laboratory director and principal investigators; attend and occasionally present at lab meetings Coordinate repository projects and inform management of status updates regarding inventory project Create monthly reports with repository updates and sample details SOARRequirements Bachelors degree in Biology or a related discipline At least 1-2 years of experience Experience working in a Biorepository and familiar with Biorepository practices MS Office SuiteCompany DescriptionDovel Technologies and its Family of Companies (Medical Science & Computing and Ace Info Solutions) was acquired in October 2021.Guidehouse is a leading global provider of consulting services to the public sector and commercial markets, with broad capabilities in management, technology, and risk consulting.
