Job Description Gilead Sciences currently has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to join our protein production, automation, and logistics group in Protein Therapeutics Department. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and display professional judgment in all aspects of daily research and presentations. This person will work in collaboration with research project teams to generate and validate potential therapeutic proteins and critical reagents. The candidate should be team-oriented, hard-working, friendly and interested in learning new skills. Responsibilities: Performs protein purification, QC, and sample bank registration to support the preclinical development of biopharmaceutical programs across multiple therapeutic areas Prepares technical reports, quantitative analyses and summaries for entry into Excel, PPT, and ELN formats Uses good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to provide insight into the processes used to achieve results of assigned tasks Participates in group meetings. Presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work. Acts as a resource for other employees within the department Maintain awareness of cutting-edge technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve performance Required skills: Detailed knowledge in the fields of protein biochemistry and protein engineering Several years of experience in purifying and characterizing a variety of recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and next generation biologics (e.g., bispecific antibodies, immunocytokines) Hands-on experience in the purification techniques including affinity (Ni-NTA, Prot-A/G/L, anti-flag, etc), ion exchange, size exclusion, hydrophobic interaction chromatography using Akta Avant/Pure or BioRad NGC Proficiency with various analytical protein characterization techniques such as SEC-HPLC or UHPLC, SDS-PAGE, Endosafe Ability to perform method development, write protocols, maintain detailed records and inventory Nice to have skills: Experience with other protein characterization technologies (DLS, SEC-MALS, LC/MS, HIC-HPLC, CE-SDS, Western Blot, ELISA, etc) would be a strong plus Knowledge and experience on protein formulation, automated liquid handling systems (Hamilton, Bravo) would be highly valued Aseptic technique and experience with mammalian cell culture Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment Education and Experience: B.S in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related discipline with 4+ years, or M.S. with 2+ years in areas related to protein sciences are required.
