The Controls Specialist (CS) works under the guidance of the Controls Manager in the development and sustaining of control systems, control standards for hardware(s), software(s), programming, and managing changes. The CS will make engineering controls decisions, specify control systems, and develop training methods, documentation, or other technical guides to assist the production floor team as required. The CS will support the Manufacturing Engineer in reviewing controls and electrical system design to ensure that is functional, safe to operate, and reliable. The CS will identify controls and networking equipment that is End of Life (EOL), lead the Appropriation Request (AR) process to acquire replacements, and work with Production and Planning to implement replacements. The CS will train, assist, and mentor technicians to run, troubleshoot, and make minor modifications to robotic programs, ladder logic, vision systems, and other systems as needed.As a Controls Specialist - 1st Shift, you will:Support the development of Controls Standards for hardware, software, and programming for the manufacturing facility.Evaluate, justify, and procure controls systems, and manufacturing processes; select suitable vendors.Generate Appropriation Requests (AR) as required to procure controls hardware, software, or Automation system.Lead the review, approval, and selection of Controls for new Manufacturing Processes and work with IT to establish all needed networking and communication.Generate documentation to guide technicians through troubleshooting - SOPs, Work Instructions, and Technical Manual.Act as trainer and coach for technicians after new controls are implemented for an appropriately defined period.Generate Project Timeline and act as the project engineer to ensure all Controls are implemented with minimal interruption to production and networking.Manage machine integrators, contractors, and other external resources to meet Scope, Budget, and Time.Lead, collaborate, and facilitate activities within the cross-functional team and ensure effective communication and teamwork are achieved.Support Manufacturing Engineer in New Product Development as Voice of the Process (VOP) to ensure the product is Manufacturable and the Automation system can perform the needed tasks for manufacturing new products.Review design layouts, detail drawings, machine hydraulic, pneumatic, and control drawings with appropriate personnel.Attend seminars and manufacturing technology meetings, keep abreast of technological advances, and manage controls system obsolescence/updates as risk mitigation, or for possible future use in InSinkErator manufacturing and products.Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.Explain difficult or sensitive information to the team in problem-solving events; work to build itiate and implement modifications or configuration changes associated with corrective action. Knowledge in Robotics (Basic EOAT operations, System Recovery/Re-Homing, PR update, Touchups, new program establishment, Ethernet, Bus, 2d or 3D IR Vision, and User Frame); Fanuc preferred.Knowledge in PLCs; Allen Bradley preferred.Understand electro-mechanical systems (Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Proximity Switches, Safety light curtains, etc.).Understand System Networking and basic infrastructure design.Knowledge in SQL Database, script coding, and programming.Experience working with RFID systems, Label Making Machines, and other Bar Code Scanners. Complete understanding of safe work practices and policies, ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others, and compliance with all safety, Robot Industries Association (R.I.A), and OSHA regulationsFamiliar with Stage Gated project execution processes (i.e.: APQP).Familiar with Vision Systems; Keyence and/or Cognex preferred.Understand basic Process Capability, Measurement System Analysis (MSAs), and other Statistical Control Methods.Knowledge of business best practices and how Engineering integrates with others; conceptually aware of competition and factors that differentiate competitors in the marketplace.Able to solve complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.Possess a positive attitude and focus on contributing to a diverse environment.PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:Bachelor''s Degree in any Engineering Discipline and 7+ years of experience, with Electrical Engineering major required.Experience with Project Management.
