The Nurse Information Specialist is responsible for promoting, planning, designing, coordinating, providing and evaluating the computer educational programs to meet the learning and competency development needs of the Nursing staff, the learning needs of the hospital support staff according to hospital/department Performance Improvement Program and professional standards of care and practice. Integrates PRHC/Nursing Department philosophy, mission, goals, policies/procedures and governmental regulations into computer educational programs/nursing care/practice by interfacing and collaborating with hospital agencies. Acts as core team leader for the Meditech and META system in Patient Care Services. Provides educational programs to other departments in other software modules. /*Schedule:*//* /Must be able to work flexible hours across all three shifts and weekends. Must be willing to travel and to utilize own vehicle for travel for work-related purposes. /Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):/ * Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of Meditech orientation/programs for all nursing employees that meet the learning and competency needs of the nursing staff as well as the organizational/educational goals of the hospital/department. * Coordinates and oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of special MEDITECH or EHR projects. * Provides education and training to the Nursing Department and other departments on the electronic medical upgrades and other areas and modules. * Develops, coordinates and oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of special MEDITECH or EHR projects. * Collaborates with the interdisciplinary staff in coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of computerized educational programs for staff, patient/families that focus on patients rights, ethical issues in health care and issues arising in the care of patients to ensure that patient rights are protected and exercised. * Participates in the development of organizational/departmental mission, vision and strategic plan and promulgates and communicates to staff in order to provide staff with a framework that guides day-to-day action and to encourage staff participation in improving organizational performance and patient care processes and outcomes. * Attends and participates in administrative meetings, patient conferences and inter/cross-departmental and multidisciplinary meetings in order to assess and evaluate educational needs of staff/patients/families and other users of services to improve performance of care and services. * Participates and contributes to hospital/departmental PI program to manage processes that measure, assess and evaluate the performance and improvement of staff, organizational management, clinical and support processes and integrates into nursing outcomes. * Performs special assignments and/or completes special reports as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer to maintain Nursing Department administrative and clinical practices current with professional practices. * Demonstrates responsibility for personal and professional development and competency by acquiring and maintaining knowledge and skills required to perform processes involved in delivery of care specific to clinical area and field and current with professional practice in nursing specialty, CPR certification, licensure and participation in professional organizations, which support and/or provide direction for nursing and health care issues. * Is the Core Team Leader and collaborates with Meditech and META in the development of the hospitals information System and oversees and provides training for the nursing department and other departments. * Participates in the selections, design and implementation of any new electronic information systems supporting patient care. /Required Qualifications:/ * Knowledge and ability to apply skilled management and leadership skills. * Knowledge and ability to communicate effectively with staff and other disciplines and to write accurate reports. * Ability to gather information through observation, application of interviewing techniques ad examination of records and documents. * Knowledge and ability to explain laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures and guidelines governing agency operations. * Knowledge of the electronic medical record application systems, data warehousing, report writing and regulatory requirements supported by clinical information systems. * Knowledge and ability to audit compliance of the electronic medical record and has the ability to hold others accountable to best practices and workflow changes. */_Preferred Qualifications: _/ * One year experience as a leader in training, developing and implementing the Meditech hospital-wide electronic medical record or other Electronic Health Record system /*Agency Mission:*/ Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) located in Canton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90 bed pediatric hospital predominately serving children and young adults (ages 822) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional, and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life. PRHC offers coordinated medical care and therapies in a hospital-based environment, as well as, K-12 schooling, located on the grounds. Educational Services are provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
