We boldly go.Job Summary:The Manager of Air Moving and Electrical Component Engineering is a leader of a four-person component engineering team responsible for the testing and qualification of new components for Residential HVAC products. Components include fractional horsepower motors, electromechanical devices, sensing and switching technologies, and blowers and axial fans. Project types include new component qualification, VAVE, quality/reliability and supply resilience projects. Close interaction with product design teams, advanced solutions engineering, operations, procurement, and customers is needed to successfully achieve this team''s goals. Core Job Responsibilities: Lead, develop, coach and mentor direct report engineers. Use the Trane 30:30 methodology for conducting status updates with team members. Collaborate with RS HVAC engineering platform teams to identify future component needs and create mutual plans for success. Work with Component Engineering Director to develop Annual Operating Plans. Support productivity, new product development, new technology investigation, quality, and supply chain robustness projects. Investigate, develop, and qualify HVAC components using component specifications, validation test plans and DFMEAs while following the Component Operating System (COS) and Independent Design Review (IDR) processes. Interface with customers and suppliers to ensure coordination and alignment of assigned components for on-time qualification prior to mass production. Partner with RS HVAC manufacturing facilities to execute changes in the production environment. Provide a regular cadence of status updates for VAVE and component shortages projects. Develop component specifications used to communicate design requirements to suppliers. Drive cycle time and defect reduction using lean tools and principles. Supervise the accurate creation/modification of engineering data and bills of material via Windchill. Maintain/update agency listings (UL, ETL, CSA, etc.) to support assigned components.Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor''s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or an equivalent engineering discipline is required. Advanced degree such as an MS or MBA is a plus. Experience in Residential HVAC products.Key Competencies: Good people management and people development skills. Results-oriented individual with emphasis on achieving overall team performance. Works effectively in an open consensus oriented, team environment. Conflict management skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Problem assessment, analysis, and resolution skills. Knowledge of fan laws and motor performance preferred.
