Position: Deputy Director of Development Department: Development Terms of Employment: Regular/ Full-Time/ Exempt Location: 125 Broad Street, New York, NY 10004 (currently hybrid) Salary: $101,557 - $124,373 Application Deadline: August 26th 2022 The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) is one of the nation''s leading advocates on behalf of constitutional rights and liberties. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION As an executive member of the Middle Management team, managing departmental responsibilities, strategic priorities and resources in meeting the mission and functional priorities of the NYCLU. Ensuring the team is operating efficiently and effectively to implement the Development Plan and each member has clearly defined roles, goals and accurate sense of their progress and career path. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Management Facilitate setting of roles and responsibilities, ensure positions are clearly defined Supervise annual fund team members: set goals and expectations; delegate tasks; provide coaching, problem-solving, evaluation and feedback that helps each staff person to fulfill their responsibilities and meet their goals Play role of Manager on most team projects (except LG) Fulfill all requirements of the middle management team including leadership, management and supervision of staff, ensuring sustainability and succession, facilitating internal communication. Planning & Results Assessment Own strategic planning, budgeting and project planning in consultation with Director of Development Own drafting of the annual development plan and KPIs Manage individual goal setting process Own performance management including retreats, step-back meetings, 2x2 feedback, annual evaluations Team Operations Ensure systems are in place that facilitate efficiency, communication and collaboration Ensure weekly team meetings used strategically and team members co-own facilitation Own team building with support from the Development Associate Donor Communications and Events Management Strategic planning, conceptualizing and editing for donor communications including annual report, appeal letters, newsletter, etc. Work with the Communications and Field teams to develop and execute annual strategic communications plan Manage fundraising events, together with staff and consultants Relationship Management Manage relationships with some of our top foundation, corporate and individual event donors Manage relationship with portfolio of individual leadership gift donors (~50 people) Stewardship of non-assigned donors, including response to donor/prospect requests Annual Fund and Regional Office Fundraising: Manage fundraising with Annual Fund donors and regional office donors and prospects Develop and manage annual fund and regional office fundraising work plan Help regional offices develop their annual donor/member cultivation plans Approve individual event and communications plans QUALIFICATIONS 7-9+ years of fundraising experience Progressively responsible experience implementing successful strategies for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors as part of a broad-based individual giving program; Demonstrated experience and strong management skills including a proven ability to motivate, coach and inspire staff; Committed to a relationship- and results-oriented approach to fundraising and problem solving; Preference will be given to candidates who have experience identifying, cultivating and personally soliciting 5-figure gifts; Previous experience executing large-scale fundraising events and generating revenue for these events through individual and corporate sponsorships; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create effective and compelling donor materials; Inclined to take initiative and work independently, as well as work as a member of a team; ability to exercise good judgment in stressful circumstances; adept at change-management; and willing to take on new tasks as the responsibilities of the position evolve; Exceptional time management, planning, and organizational skills, with an emphasis on detail and accuracy; superior attention to detail with strong follow-through; Proficient in Excel and Word and experienced with reporting and using donor databases; Committed to civil liberties principles and advancing the NYCLU''s mission.
