Join us and give new meaning to the word, ''job.''OverviewThe Patient & Community Outreach Director is a strategic leader within the Department of Education and Services. The individual in this position is responsible for implementation and development of strategies in support of key departmental goals including: connect more blood cancer patients with LLS, as soon after diagnosis as possible; provide ongoing support, education, and access to quality care; and build healthcare provider and community relationships to increase referrals of blood cancer patients and caregivers to LLS, with an emphasis on underserved populations. The Patient & Community Outreach Director will provide leadership, direction and management of regional patient and community outreach staff. All LLS employees are required to provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19 before beginning work at LLS unless a valid medical, religious, or other exemption is approved consistent with applicable law.Additional Position InformationReports to:Vice President, Patient & Community Outreach Supervises:Patient & Community Outreach Senior Managers, Patient & Community Outreach Managers, and Community Outreach Specialists. All employees are required to provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19 in connection with performing in-person work at an LLS office or other location, or before attending any LLS sponsored event, unless a reasonable accommodation is approved, consistent with applicable law. **This position supports our Northeast Region, and must reside in: New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, or Washington DC**ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities: Provide supervision, direction and support to a regionally based patient & community outreach team that implements the following priority activities: Create and maintain deep engagement with blood cancer patients throughout their cancer journey from diagnosis through survivorship by providing ongoing support, education and access to quality care; Promote LLS Information Resource Center (IRC) Information Specialists as an essential point of initial patient/caregiver contact, inside and outside of LLS, for disease, treatment and support information. Helps identify and cultivate volunteer relationships to better reach healthcare providers as well as underserved patients and community members. Develop collaborative relationships with community-based organizations throughout the region, especially those serving underserved populations; Build committees comprised of local oncology professionals and key stakeholders to build relationships with LLS Chapters and to assist with patient outreach and events. Implement an effective, timely and ongoing communication strategy to ensure relevant information about patient and community outreach strategies and goals are delivered to internal and external stakeholders; Conduct in-person and virtual community-based patient education programs in select markets, including underserved areas; Partner with LLS campaign and advancement staff to provide information about the LLS mission to internal and external stakeholders, including staff, potential volunteers, donors and funders; Engage patients, caregivers, and health care professionals to volunteer for fundraising efforts and mission-related activities; Partner with LLS policy advocacy staff to identify advocates and patient stories and maintain engagement in policy initiatives. Communication of relevant patient and community outreach information, strategies and goals are delivered to internal and external stakeholders; Partners with leadership to design and implement strategies to integrate advocacy & mission with campaigns and donor development; Partners with leadership and Executive Directors to infuse mission and foster high-level volunteer relationships among board of trustees, key stakeholders, and at high level donor events; Assessment of ongoing needs and gaps in access, services and education for patients and providers within the geographic region; Collaborate and partner with internal stakeholders including Executive Directors, Patient & Community Outreach Managers, Campaign, Region, and Home Office staff to ensure joint planning, mutually beneficial support, and effective advancement toward LLSs overarching goals and strategies; Manage and maintain relationships with region Executive Directors, arrange for region visits; Maintain a working knowledge of the LLS mission and programs to promote the field and campaign fundraising initiatives; Manage financial resources allocated for position; Perform other related duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation & Experience Requirements: Advanced degree preferred 5-7 years of progressively responsible related experience with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity (can include supervision of volunteers) Healthcare educational background preferred Position Requirements: Broad knowledge, experience, and skills in management with emphasis on strategic planning, problem solving, relationship and network building, financial management, organizational and volunteer development, and team building Ability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements Strong healthcare knowledge base with oncology experience preferred Strong problem-solving, priority-setting, and project management skills Experience with outreach to underserved populations Proven ability to conceptualize and articulate science-based policy goals Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to articulate the LLS Mission (Research, Patient & Professional Programs, Advocacy/Policy) to a wide audience Ability to work independently, thrive under pressure, and perform multiple tasks Proven leadership, supervisory and team building skills in a remote environment Physical Demands & Work Environment: Position requires 35% to 40% travel; night and weekend work may be required Must reside within the territory he or she manages Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations DisclaimerLLS is an equal employment opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in its workplace.
