In this role, the successful candidate will provide care to the research participant and adherence to the research protocol at the Clinical Research Center at NYULH Brooklyn. Work independently under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator(s) and/or other research department management. This includes provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive health care using advanced practice nursing process and pertinent standards of care, the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, and performance of diagnostic, therapeutic, corrective and prescriptive measures as appropriate for patients within a collaborative practice agreement with a specific physician(s) on the staff for inpatient and outpatient population at NYULH Brooklyn. Develop competency in clinical research nursing, including knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and Federal Regulations that govern the conduct of human subjects research as well as NYUs Institutional Review Board, and Clinical Translational Science Institutes policies. Demonstrate nursing skills as required under NY state and federal regulations for NP licensure. Possess clinical assessment skills and ability to navigate patients through the course of trial participation within NYULH Brooklyn network. Supervise and direct nurse practitioners and clinical research coordinators for purposes of optimizing research activities in the delivery of health care to patients while promoting a positive work environment. Serves as a liaison to nursing, care management, hospital administration, and other hospital departments. Represents the advanced practice nurses to accrediting bodies ensuring institutional compliance.Job Responsibilities:Clinical: Functions as an integral part of the clinical practice team and as a Sub-investigator on the clinical trialresearch team located in NYULH Brooklyn Clinical Research Center. Completes outpatient, inpatient and virtual trial visits, including history, physical exams, and psychosocialassessments. Participates in development of treatment plans, and interprets lab test results and diagnosticprocedure results. Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiatesbetween normal/abnormal findings and follows SOC and research protocols for abnormal findings andconsults with physicians and principal investigator of the study. Screens and directs attention of clinician to all patients referred by medical/nursing staff as potentialcandidates for study. Conducts a thorough research screening visit for potential trial participants and workswith investigators to evaluate eligibility. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of clinical trial and patients.Provides monitoring and continuity of care between office visits. Maintains and reviews patient records,charts and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results to physician and patient chart. Oversee collection of vitals and collection of biofluids. Assist and trains when necessary. Triages and responds to patient telephone calls, screens incoming laboratory data, discusses data withpatients and takes appropriate action when results require prompt intervention for clinical trial and practicepatients. Provide patients with thorough explanation of trial prior to obtaining Informed Consent, in collaboration withtreating physician and provides patient education on an ongoing basis throughout the patient''s course ontrial. Completes research visits and obtains Informed Consent with English and non-English speakingindividuals. Ascertains appropriate consents, protocols and forms are properly completed and filed in patient''s chart andcollects and reports data. Promptly reports to clinician all untoward reactions observed during the course oftreatment, and all potentially serious reactions. Prescribes medical therapy, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services perpractice protocol. Prescribes medications according to New York State law, including controlled substanceswith DEA authorization. Administers appropriate test medication/treatments in accordance with protocol and documents observations. Promptly responds to calls from medical or nursing staff regarding any untoward reactions occurring inpatients and immediately apprises the clinician of same. Facilitates the continuity of care across the continuum of services, other facilities, and appointments withMD''s.Collaboration: Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), nursing and other disciplines toidentify, develop, and implement clinical studies. Collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure timelycommunications with the nursing staff. Actively participates in appropriate committees with the departmentor institution. Works with the attending physician to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for patients andensures communication with family members, house staff, other disciplines and ancillary munication/Documentation: Enters documentation of all medications and/or treatments administered to patients in appropriate medicalrecord. If and when applicable, maintains appropriate records of supplies and investigational drugs inprotocols studies as required by government, hospital and FDA regulations. Reports promptly and accuratelyall significant clinical events to clinicians. Responsible for the good quality source documentation related to research visits, including the collection ofAdverse Events and Concomitant Medications. Ensure Serious Adverse Events and other reportable information is reported as per regulatory requirementsand timeframes.Continuous Learning: Promotes own professional growth and development in research role and maintains current expertise in areaof practice. Serves as a resource to peers and works collaboratively with other disciplines within the area ofexpertise. Participates in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevantoutside agencies. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization''s Service Standards and incorporates them into the performanceof responsibilities.Patient / Staff Education: Provides patients/families instruction with teaching materials pertinent to protocol, medication and diseasemanagement. Educates patients regarding their condition and treatment plans, including but not limited to thefollowing areas: understanding the disease process, understanding the protocol-specified treatment,understanding potential side effects, providing education regarding side effects management, providingeducation regarding laboratory abnormalities, interpreting and providing education related to scan results. Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience intopatient care and serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other healthprofessionals. Provides consultation about the therapeutic regimen to the nursing staff responsible for the patient''s care inthe hospital setting.Population/Age Specific Standards: Demonstrates knowledge when performing duties and responsibilities outlined herein of principles of growthand development appropriate to age (s) of patients serviced (i.e., neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric).Demonstrates cultural competencies of underserved populations as it relates to race/ethnicity, gender andsexual orientation.Planning: Meets with clinician regularly to review approved or proposed projects; participates in planning, feasibilityand evaluating of these projects. Participates in staff meetings on a regular basis. Collaborates with the Director of Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants, and the division chiefof the clinical department in the recruitment, retention, and human resource management of the nursepractitioners and physician assistants assigned to respective service. Guides and monitors performance anddelivery of care on a daily basis, including time scheduling, assignments, and coordination of services topatients.Publication/Research Development: Contributes to and publishes relevant research findings in collaboration with research staff. Communicatespublished research finding to department. Assists in the preparation, implementation, evaluation and feasibility of research protocols. Providesadequate explanation regarding clinically-related obstacles. Contributes to the development of nursing knowledge in area of practice through writing, research, andformal/informal presentations.Administrative: Coordinates and supervises research activities of clinical research studies conducted by principal investigatorat NYULH Brooklyn CRC Center. Participates in monitoring/maintaining a safe environment for staff, visitors and patients through hazardidentificationand reporting accident prevention. Facilitates the on-boarding, orientation, ongoing professional development and performance appraisals ofnurse practitioners and coordinators. Coordinates clinical activities of nurse practitioners to accomplish established safety and quality measures. Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols forpurposes of quality and performance improvement. Uses evidence-based health care literature to advise andsupport appropriate practice changes within the designated service. Participates in Service Line Quality and Performance Improvement meetings, Advance Practice Nursingmeetings and committees. Participates in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevantoutside agencies. Participates in hospital, NY State and TJC mandated education programs. Serves as a clinical expert andresource for the education of peers and other health professionals. Collaborates with research directors and office administrators to ensure that systems supportive of clinicalresearch function smoothly. Facilitates self-governance of nurse practitioner/physician assistant group incollaboration with Director of Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants when needed. Practices an evidence-based approach to clinical care, using guidelines established by leading nursingnational and international bodies. Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must haveEducation: Masters and/or Doctoral Degree in Nurse Practitioner Program;Licensure: Current license as Professional Registered Nurse and current registration as NursePractitioner (NP) in New York State; Board certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner; DEA & BLSMembership in related professional organizationsExperience: at least 5 years of clinical advanced practice nursing is required.Technology: Proficient in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel,Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience as a research nurse or coordinator preferred.Technology: Prior use of data analysis/capturing tools such as SPSS, REDCAP, CRMS Communication/Organization/Learning: Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership.Possess commitment to continuous learning as required by department administration.Language: Bilingual Spanish preferred.Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn provides its staff with far more than just a place to work.
