OverviewPOSITION SUMMARY The Area Director of Sales is a sales professional who has demonstrated success in the local hotel marketplace. Possesses excellent communication skills which are essential to creating effective client relationships and to attain budgeted business objectives. The ADOS will employ value selling techniques and communicate with an open dialog. Must be customer centered and ensure that the client''s needs are communicated with accuracy and detail. The individual needs to have a professional appearance and warm, accommodating confident, enthusiastic and motivating personality. The Area Director of Sales is responsible for achieving individual revenue goals set in collaboration with the Vice President of Sales and Marketing to achieve the financial, business and marketing objectives of each hotel in the assigned portfolio. This is accomplished by developing a strategic and measurable plan to generate new business and growing existing accounts in assigned key market segments. The Area Director of Sales is to work closely with the Revenue Management and e-Commerce teams assigned to the portfolio and all Operational departments of the hotel. Similarly, the Area Director of Sales will have direct oversight of the Area Sales Managers to achieve the financial, business and marketing objectives of their respective cluster of hotels. KEY RESPONSIBILTIES The primary responsibilities for the Area Director of Sales includes but are not limited to: - Responsible for soliciting, prospecting, negotiating and booking new and repeat business (Group, Business Travel and Catering) through efforts, which could include direct phone sales, direct sales calls, sales trips, tradeshows, referrals, networking, etc. to meet budgeted sales goals. - Actively participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings - In conjunction with General Manager and Director of Revenue Management, conduct group sales business review analysis to determine viability of booking with respect to business levels, annual business plan objectives and overall Hotel performance. - Achieve all solicitation & sales revenue goals related to specifically assigned markets monthly and those of the sales team. - Analyze historical, current, and future hotel/market trends to create and develop key selling strategies to ensure hotel is positioned correctly with partners. - Develop and cultivate relationships with high-profile business accounts and selected premier travel agencies to maintain and increase market share. - Conduct ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for continued development and identification of new markets. - Maximize revenue by selling all facets of the hotel, both orally and written form to previous, current and prospective clients. - Demonstrate ability to understand client''s requirements and specifications and translating that into sales solutions to provide a world-class experience for group business. - Provide input into guest service standard and expectations within assigned department while group is in-house as required by level of commitment in contracts. - Act as a single source for the Hotel''s banquet team to ensure effective booking turnovers and positive client experiences, while ensuring all contractual agreements with the customer have been met. - Conduct weekly site visits, while entertaining clients as deemed appropriate for potential business for that account. - Follow all established policies and procedures relating to administration of accounts and ultimate booking of business. - Participate and be involved in community and professional organizations. - Attend and represent the Hotel at industry related events to generate new business. - Actively participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings at base hotel and within portfolio as needed - Consistently deliver high standards of care to existing customers and to promote further business by exceeding customer expectations where possible. - Ensure all proposals and contracts are presented to the client accurately and effectively, while operating in accordance with strategic objectives to exceed market driven group revenue components. - Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel sales staff. - Conduct weekly sales meetings to discuss topical items. - Review weekly sales plans of each Area Sales Manager to ensure direct sales solicitation efforts and revenue generation needs are fulfilled- Prioritize accordingly with each Area Sales Manager to achieve maximum results. ResponsibilitiesQUALIFICATIONS In addition to performance of key responsibilities and supportive functions, this position may be required to possess a combination of the following skills and experiences: - Ability to travel for sales calls, including representation of the company at tradeshows and conferences as necessary. - Proven record of penetrating markets, while developing market segments. - Strong organizational and analytical skills, along with demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment. - Demonstrated ability to work with maximum efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail. - Must have experience in all Microsoft Office and industry relevant Sales systems and tools (i.e., FDC, SFA Web, STR, A 360, Knowland Group, etc.) - Demonstrated ability to work cohesively with a team. - Ability to exercise sound logic and judgment in evaluating situations and utilizing appropriate resources. - Must be self-directed, motivated and demonstrate exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills. - Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing. A second language is desirable. Education: Bachelor or Associate degree, preferably specializing in Hospitality, Sales or equivalent experience is required. Experience: Must have at least three (3) or more years of hotel sales experience responsible for selling a multi- hotel complex. Additionally, The Area Director of Sales should have an additional 3 years of sales and marketing leadership in similar sized operation preferred.
