What you''ll do You will be responsible for driving the UX research for both Automotive and Enterprise (B2B) clients, with a primary focus on the US market. This position is based in the Detroit office (hybrid work-from-home model), where you''ll work with a UX Designer and several Product Managers. You''ll be communicating often with the larger UX team in Europe and external customers in the US; some travel is expected for team events, research activities, and client collaborations. Some core activities include: Align with stakeholders in the US and NL to proactively identify areas that require exploration and drive the research agenda, with a focus to uncover unmet user needs in the US market. Work closely with automotive client teams and in-house product teams of UX Designers, Engineers, Architects, and Product Management to discover and deliver new products, features, and services. Establish and grow our collaborative research and development efforts with external customers, including automotive and B2B clients. Conduct expert reviews and drive tests with our products to improve our knowledge of US drivers; communicate these insights to the UX team in Europe and external clients. Coordinate research activities, such as recruiting participants, organizing test cars, and preparing test materials (e.g., driving simulator, prototypes, interview scripts). Organize workshops and design sprints to make user insights tangible. Connect quantitative and qualitative user insights to create data-driven solutions. Distill new insights from the user research, define practical improvements, and find the best ways to convince stakeholders to act upon findings. Demonstrate TomTom''s commitment to the US and automotive markets to our customers. Think holistically about the end-to-end TomTom experience and inspire others to do so. What you''ll need You are passionate about designing and executing user research and usability testing, sharing findings/recommendations, and contributing to future car solutions. You naturally put user needs first, while taking client''s requirements into account. You can present and share your work in a compelling and convincing way to diverse stakeholders. You have a strong will to create easy-to-use, delightful products. You love iterating UX designs together with designers to find the best possible user experience. You are a self-starter, able to work closely with project managers and clients to identify UX research needs. You feel comfortable collaborating in and coordinating large international research projects. You''re proactive, and a great team player. To be successful as a Senior UX Researcher, this is the kind of profile we have in mind: 5+ years of industry experience in designing and/or researching mobile applications, car HMI, or physical devices. An advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Ethnography, Industrial Design, or related discipline. In-depth experience with the whole package of qualitative and quantitative user research methods, such as usability tests, contextual interviews, observational studies, drive tests, survey design, leading workshops, etc. Knowledge of various UX and collaboration tools. A good understanding of statistics and analytics (knowledge of R for analysis is a plus). Strong interpersonal skills: present, align, communicate, collaborate, engage, convince... Creative problem solver, team player, self-motivated, and dedicated to excellence. Solid time-management and prioritization skills with the ability to run simultaneous projects that are often time-sensitive. Pragmatism: balance research investment depending on user and/or business impact. Flexible work hours and comfortable working with geographically distributed teams (e.g., US, Europe, Taiwan); willing to travel to Amsterdam for UX team meetings a few times a year and within the US for market testing.
