OverviewMercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit Catholic medical centers in Des Moines West Des Moines Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals - MercyOne Children''s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total) - along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care pediatric internal medicine and specialty clinics. MercyOne has more than 20000 colleagues in Iowa and surrounding states.ResponsibilitiesGENERAL SUMMARY:Assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients (adult and geriatric). Works with considerable independence within policy and program guidelines. Provides professional nursing care incorporating the nursing process, the environment, technical equipment and other health care members. Works independently with limited direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, AACVPR guidelines, and professional judgment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Administers nursing care to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation; includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient''s plan of care in coordination with the physician.Provides patient/family education and counseling for identifying risk factors and developing life-style modification pertaining to cardiopulmonary disease and related health issues.Supervises other health care members (i.e. cardiopulmonary specialists, exercise physiologists, interns, etc.). When needed, triages patients. Problem-solves with staff, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary itiates emergency procedures (including cardiopulmonary resuscitation) according to policy.Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patient''s records.Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function and strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner and promote patient safety.MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: (Some of these may be essential functions based on assignment)Assumes job responsibilities of other team members (i.e., exercise physiologists, cardiopulmonary specialists, respiratory therapists) during their absence.Performs as a member of the Health Screen staff.Contributes to community service activities related to cardiopulmonary disease.Acts as a resource for other staff members, participants, and students by providing orientation/education.Provides input for program maintenance and development.DISCLOSURE STATEMENT:The above statements reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the essential functions of the job as identified but should not be considered a detailed description of all work requirements that may be needed to perform the duties of this position. Must have ability to maintain skills and perform tasks required for the position as outlined in the list of department competencies.LI-CHImissioncriticalQualificationsMINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of pletion of an EKG cardiac monitoring class required.2 years cardiac nursing/pulmonary nursing with EKG monitoring experience and arrhythmia interpretation required.ACLS required within 12 months for RN''s working in the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Phase 2 department.LI-CHImissioncritical
