We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people''s ability to move - whether for work or play.What we do: The Sr. Propulsion Mechanical Engineer along with the Powertrain team will be responsible for the design, integration, qualification, and certification of the energy storage system. This position works closely with Battery Research & Technology, Airframe, Assembly & Integration, Vehicle Management Systems, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.What you can do:Lead design and development and definition of the battery system. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of electrical, mechanical, and thermal architectures, both internal to the battery system and in the context of the vehicle as a wholeDefine distribution, protection, control, and aircraft interfaces for the battery systemAssess development risks and coordinate mitigation strategiesCoordinate all energy storage system integration technology maturation activities in order to achieve aircraft certification and entry into serviceLead analysis efforts which include battery performance, thermal management, structural stress, thermal stress, and modal/vibrationDerive system-level requirements and specifications based on vehicle Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and requirementsDefine and mature mechanical, electrical, and collaborate with aircraft systems to include airframe, wiring, and vehicle management systemsCollaborate with suppliers/partners to ensure program achievements are achievedCollaborate with Battery Technology & Innovation organization to implement low TRL technologies and systems into the air vehicle designWork with flight test engineers to define instrumentation requirements and interfacesOther duties as assignedWhat you can contribute:Bachelor''s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineeringA minimum of five (5) years of experience in battery system development (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)Experience in 3D CAD modeling in CATIA, NX, or similar proficiency in conceptual layouts, interface maturation, and detailed designProficiency in ASME Y14.5 GD&T tolerance stack analysis and dimensioningExpertise with vehicle checkout and testingAbility to effectively handle schedule, budget, suppliers, and product development effortsKnowledge of battery, energy storage systems, and containment technologiesExperience with battery management hardware and/or software development preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProactive delivery of communication and follow upExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailMust have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraintsSelf-motivated and forward-thinking personalityYou may also be able to contribute:Master''s degree in a related field preferredExperience with AMESim, ANSYS, or similar simulation software preferredExperience with the full life cycle of battery system development, qualification, production, and product support preferredExperience with 500-1200 VDC systems is preferredExperience working in the aviation industry is preferredExperience working with regulatory agencies is preferredFamiliarity with FAA part 23/25/27/29/33Familiarity with practical application of DO-160 and DO-311 preferredFamiliarity with Matlab or similar programming languageMay require up to 15% of domestic and international travelAny offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background check.
