R&D Data Engineer

OverviewWe have an opening for a Data Engineer in the Research and Development organization. This individual will do data analysis, modeling, develop and deploy data analytics tools for Architectural glass operations. The main application domain will be in glass melting and forming, and glass coating (sputtering, thin film, etc.). The primary focus of this position will be in integrating and preparing large and varied datasets from different data sources, applying data mining techniques, doing advanced statistical analysis, building high quality prediction systems integrated within our research and manufacturing platforms, and communicate results with scientists and engineers.This position is based out of our Glass Technology Research Center near Pittsburgh. While much of the work will be remote, travel to our manufacturing facilities to support development and deployment of new production-focused tools and instruments may be required.ResponsibilitiesAcquire and consolidate large datasets from multiple sources through data platforms such as SQL, OSIsoft-PI, and Azure Cloud, etc.Manage data and orchestrate data flows in CloudConduct on-demand data analysis and modelingDevelop and deploy data analytics and reporting toolsWrite research reports and communicate research findings with domain expertsTravel to manufacturing plants for project launch and execution may be requiredQualifications0-14 years'' experience required depending on level of education in Engineering, Technology or related Scientific DisciplineExcellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to plan, organize and share information in interactions with management, peers, associates, and vendors.Ability to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve problemsMust be able to work autonomously as well as in a team settingSolid coding skills and algorithm development in at least one programming language such as C, R, Python, PySpark, Scala, etc.Basic experience with relational databases and SQL scriptingSolid knowledge in statisticsFundamental knowledge in machine learning modelingStrong aptitude and willingness to continually learn and expand skill setsDedication to timely and detailed follow-throughGood interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplined teamExcellent teamwork and collaboration skills in working with cross-functional teams across all levelsPast data analysis experience (at least 6 months) in glass manufacturing environmentDesired: Experience with OSIsoft-PI, Microsoft Azure, Spark, glass making and vacuum coating processes, and remote support of software applications and their development
