Assistant Chemical Hygiene Officer Job Number Full/Part Time Schedule Salary 27149915 Full Time 8AM - 5PM $68,500 - $123,900 Position Information Under the general direction of the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO)/Lab Safety Supervisor (LSS), the Assistant Chemical Hygiene Officer (ACHO) will be the program lead for managing the UCR Chemical Inventory program covering all departments at the university. This incumbent will be responsible for managing departments in maintaining their chemical inventory, database, website and the distribution process for the chemical sharing program to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and campus policy. The incumbent will independently perform follow up activities, such as documenting, tracking, training, educating, labeling, storing, and purging of chemicals in support of established corrective action implementation. The incumbent will work with the Fire Marshal to identify and maintain building control areas for the entire campus, determine and maintain maximum allowable quantities (MAQs) of hazardous chemicals, and assisting labs in maintaining inventory below MAQs (as defined by fire code). The incumbent will conduct or participate in on-site inspections and assessments for regulatory applicability, and participate in program implementation where needed to achieve compliance. Develops and promulgates policies, practices and procedures in cooperation with high level administrators, committees, and departments. The incumbent will support the CHO/LSS in maintaining and implementing the comprehensive campus laboratory safety program related to general lab safety, chemical hygiene/safety, process safety, high hazards, physical hazards, etc. The incumbent schedules and conducts independent laboratory safety evaluations to identify and evaluate a wide variety of potential hazards in the work place; submits timely reports; conducts timely follow-up to corrective actions and recommendations until items are resolved; and assists with the development and implementation of the lab safety program according to EH&S departmental procedures. The incumbent will work with the CHO/LSS in developing criteria for using high hazard chemicals. The incumbent will actively investigate and promote continuous process improvement efforts at all levels of education and research safety. The incumbent is responsible for training personnel in the proper use of personal protective equipment. The incumbent conducts incident investigations, recommends appropriate resolutions based on root cause analysis, and compiles lessons learned from incidents. The incumbent ensures compliance with University of California, Office of the President (UCOP) Policy by overseeing, monitoring and managing compliance to ensure safe procedures are properly followed. Incumbent will interpret exposure sampling results and collaborate on reports to provide recommendations to reduce potential exposures to hazardous materials and conditions. The budgeted hiring range for this position is up to $96,200 annually.As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy.
