Discover how much is possible as you grow or advance your career.SUMMARYThis position is responsible for providing the MMA West Region Employee Health & Benefits (''EH&B'') practice and its clients and prospects with compliance assistance, education, and training with respect to federal, state, and local health and welfare benefits law.As a member of MMA West''s EH&B Compliance Team, you will perform health and welfare compliance reviews for clients and prospects, help address a variety of ad hoc compliance questions, and participate in client seminars and related speaking engagements. You may also assist with the development of intellectual capital for MMA West.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES* Function as resource to MMA West''s EH&B practice team by performing client and prospect compliance reviews as directed.* Help review and respond to ad hoc request for compliance assistance upon request.* Assist with the development of intellectual capital including alerts, presentations, and other material as needed.* Attend MMA West meetings and calls as scheduled.* Assist MMA West with brand building and recognition.* Performs additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned and necessary to support business objectives.QUALIFICATIONS* Bachelor''s (BA/BS) or Associate''s degree; or equivalent combination of education and training.* One or more recognized paralegal certifications (e.g., CP, CLA, PP, etc.) in good standing.* 5-7 years'' experience as a paralegal, specializing in health and welfare benefits law including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and health care reform.* Proven ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.* Proficient in reading, analyzing and interpreting technical procedures and periodicals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.* Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees, and on a one-on-one basis.* Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction.* Ability to learn and understand the fundamentals of employer-provided group health and fringe benefit programs.* Effective time management skills including the ability to prioritize and organize workload.* Ability to work effectively on a team and independently under general supervision.* Strong relationship builder and partner to the business.* Must be able to work remotely using VPN access from home or while traveling.* Must be proficient using the Microsoft Windows platform and the following standard software programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, internet-based research and internet-based research systems (e.g. EBIA Checkpoint).WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS* Periods of heavy workload requiring extended working hours.* While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
