Under general direction, the San Leandro Hospital Manager, Respiratory Care Services manages and directs the daily operations of the Respiratory Care Services Department, Neuro-diagnostic Services, Pulmonary Function Laboratory. Assures delivery of quality patient care, directs, evaluates, and initiates disciplinary actions for practitioners and aides assigned to the department. Performs related duties as required. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. Assures the establishment and maintenance of a system of administration in each area for which responsible which facilitates the giving of patient care and the promotion of staff satisfaction: -Monitors availability and use of reference manual contents. -Monitors implementation of standards set by the State and National regulatory and accrediting agencies. -Encourages obtaining and incorporating, when feasible, suggestions and recommendations from staff. -Responds promptly to referred employee problems and grievances -Assists and/or reviews priorities of patient care and department operation; makes adjustments in resources and/or staffing -Interprets and implements policies, procedures, and regulations. -Assures the establishment and maintenance of an organizational structure in each area for which responsible; promotes effective and economic utilization of personnel and supplies: Monitors utilization of personnel and rules and regulations relating to personnel. Monitors adequacy and operational ability of supplies and equipment. Communicates regularly with immediate supervisor to report on the status of activities, studies, trends, resources, personnel, programs, needs and problems; consults and plans with the physicians and other professional staff in the coordination of health care delivery programs. Contributes to the development of staff performance standards; monitoring of personnel activities; evaluation of achievement and performance standards; contributes to the establishment of Respiratory Care Department goals and objectives and routinely reports progress to immediate supervisor; contributes to the planning and implementation of education programs for employees, students from affiliated schools, and volunteers; participates in interviewing, evaluating and recommending respiratory for employment and promotion; monitors the preparation of performance evaluation records. Directs the promotion of cordial and productive patterns of communication and relationships with medical staff and inter/intra departmental personnel; ensures the implementation and evaluation of individual respiratory care plans; evaluates progress of assigned areas and plans, implements, and evaluates programs to meet current and anticipated needs; makes regular rounds to units to evaluate status of patient care, operation and staff needs. Monitors the regularity of programs providing for continuity of care, teaching of patients, control of infection in patients and staff, and coordination of care with other departments. Participates in the determination and in area of responsibility, assures the implementation of patient care, and document standards and quality assurance criteria, and monitors the documentation of achievement. Participates with the school faculty in the planning of clinical experience programs for students from affiliating schools and assures the cordial and coordinated operation of the program. Prepares documentation to support requests for continuing enhancement of respiratory capabilities; make budgetary recommendations for personnel, supplies, equipment, remodeling, and contracts. Provides guidance directed to the continuous progress of units programs designed to facilitate methods of organization and administration of patient care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor''s degree in healthcare or related field; Master''s degree in healthcare preferred. Education: Graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy. Minimum Experience: Five years managing respiratory care services in a critical care setting within an acute care facility. Ten years of overall critical care in an acute care facility. PREFERRED: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification-AHA American Heart Association. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: BLS - Basic Life Support Certification - issued by AHA-American Heart Association. Possession of a valid license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of California. Registry with the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).
