OverviewThe Senior Network Security Engineer will work as a member of the Cybersecurity team and in support of the Network Security program and its commitment to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of St. Jude information assets. The Senior Network Security Engineer will be accountable for implementing technology, solutions, processes and automation that adhere to a Zero Trust framework. Responsibilities will include coordinating with cybersecurity and other programs to ensure that technology and processes and operations are aligned between the various programs. The Senior Network Security Engineer will support the program mandate to ensure cybersecurity safeguards are working to identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover from cybersecurity threats that could negatively impact the institutional systems, networks, or data. This position may be eligible for the possibility of remote work.ResponsibilitiesIf selected, you will join the cybersecurity team''s network security program responsible for developing solutions and standards to enhance information system and data security. This position requires expertise in network and web-based protocols, authentication, network defenses, data protection, malware defenses, and other security technologies.Network Security Engineering:* Help develop and implement the organization''s network security technology, including Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE).* Continuously evaluate current security infrastructure for opportunities to improve functionality, usability, and automation.* Assist with implementing DevOps methodologies into infrastructure deployment and day to day operations.* Implement cloud appropriate network security strategies into public and private cloud environments.* Review and assist with network designs for new applications with the goal of reducing the likelihood of security incidents.* Develop, enhance, and verify technical security standards for network and security device configurations.* Work closely with cybersecurity''s incident response team to automate incident response activities into the network as well as consistently improve our ability to monitor activity across the network.* Coordinate with application owners and technical staff to implement security enhancements to existing applications, as well as new applications.* Identify, define and document system security requirements and recommend solutions to management.* Configure, troubleshoot and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware.* Install software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.* Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures.* Plan, develop, implement and update company''s information security strategy.* Assists with activities promoting information security awareness within the* Maintains an awareness and understanding of technological advances, vendor product offerings, and* Participates in external training and conferences or related ongoing education activities.* Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.Network Operations Response:* Operationalize Indicator of Compromise from intelligence feeds by developing, testing, and deploying monitoring and alerting rules into SIEM.* Provides guidance to Information Services and other departments for projects, systems, and processes to ensure appropriate network security controls are included.* Provide timely support for incident response and vulnerability management teams by collecting relevant intelligence, performing research and or providing analysis.* Track customer requests from start to finish and engage with customers directly as required* Participates in internal and external audits for information security, as Collects and presents data to auditors and participates in audit review sessions.* Provide some level of off-hours support for requests on a rotating basis.Project Management:* Plans, organizes, controls and leads small to medium sized cross functional* Supports project teams through all phases of the project lifecycle (initiate, plan, execute, close).* Contributes to the definition of program and project goals, alignment of those goals with institutional and department goals, ensuring that critical success factors are defined during* Develops and maintains the accuracy of a project plan with input from key stakeholders, the project team members, resource managers, and vendors for assigned* Develops communication plans and delivers communications clearly and effectively with all project* Assists senior staff and the Chief Information Security Officer with the completion of projects within the Information Security Office* Supports project teams through all phases of the required.* MBA or related Masters in technology field preferred.Minimum Experience* Minimum requirement: 4+ years of demonstrable work experience in security preferably in the healthcare research industry.* Demonstrated experience working with securing IT technology (e.g. cloud, SaaS, network/server management) with an insight into IT risk, threat actors, and attack vectors.* Experience managing more complex IT security processes/ projects.* Must have experience in/or demonstrated proficiency in project management, working as part of a team and effective communication skills (written and verbal).* Strong communication skills with a brisk writing style; able to build a compelling and effective narrative.* Skill and ability to work in fast-paced environment, to triage and to work within a small, highly-technical group while providing explanations to non-technical people.* Ability to work as part of a distributed virtual analysis team with limited supervision.* Ability to dynamically analyze malicious code and related threats.* Demonstrated proficiency with scripting or programming languages, (e.g. C++, Perl and/or Python)* Understanding of how operating systems work and the ways malware interacts with them.* Understanding of common network traffic protocols and familiarity with common network traffic analysis techniques.* Significant experience with troubleshooting network incidents.
