Bring your ideas to Boeing and help shape the future of aerospace manufacturing.Airframe Customer Support in Seal Beach, CA is looking for Mechanical and Structural Design Engineers to help resolving structural issues related to in-service airplanes. The candidate will performing retrofit/repair design and drawing configuration analysis using Boeing standard design tools in support of fleet wide and individual airplane safety issues. Initiates and coordinates FAA major/minor determination and certification plan activities in support of fleet wide safety related projects, structural repair manuals (SRM), and service bulletins. Provides product definition support to other engineering teams and suppliers. Develops new design/repair processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the customer service support. Develops and manages work statements and represent the work group in technical as well as non-technical reviews boards.This position supports customers on a 24/7 basis and operates on a variable shift and rotation schedule. Working periodic off-nominal shifts on a rotational basis is expected as part of this job. Join us today and help shape the future of commercial aviation!Our Teams are currently hiring for a range of experience levels including Mid-Level & Lead Mechanical and Structural Design Engineers.Primary Responsibilities:Applies knowledge of Boeing design principles to assess and resolve product/process issues through the product lifecycle.Develops, integrates and documents structural requirements to establish the system design.Develops, maintains and modifies component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.Works under minimal direction.Willing to support a 24/7 on-call rotation schedule and the ability to work variable shifts, including weekends or overtime.The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):Bachelor''s or Master''s of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Physics, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil or Structural Engineering.3 or more years'' of experience with structural design principles (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques).Fundamental understanding of Boeing drawing interpretation and documentation including model based design.Fundamental skills in 3D CAD drawing creation and release process including prototype modelling and 3D printing.Fundamental understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) per ASME Y14.5 as it relates to bolt/hole interference, shimming issues, and general fit and function issues pertaining to the repair solution. Fundamental understanding of joints, fasteners, manufacturing processes, finishes, EME, electrical bonding, seals, and structural materials as it applies to retrofit design repair solution. Basic understanding of load paths and initial sizing analysis based on internal loads.Basic understanding of BPSM root cause and corrective action process.Basic understanding of CFAR regulations affecting the repair.Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):9 or more years'' of experience with structural design principles (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques).Experience with engineering tools such as CATIA, ENOVIA, PDM, NASTRAN and PATRAN finite element modeling software.Experience in Airplane Design, Stress Analysis, Liaison Engineering, Manufacturing EngineeringExperience working transport category airplane certification or production/fleet support projects involving FAA approval.Master''s of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace engineering preferred.Design and manufacturing experience or background in production environment in regard to metallic as well as composite design and repair.Experience in supporting AOG repair solution especially for composite airplanes.MRB experience in production as well as out-of-production environment airplane.Experience in making major/minor determination on repair projects as certified Design Approval Engineer (DAE) in behalf of ODA. Experience in team collaboration and coordination involving multi-discipline team approach in resolving a service issues.Typical Education/Experience: Bachelor''s degree and typically 5 or more years'' experience in an engineering classification or a Master''s degree with typically 3 or more years'' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification.Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
