Teamwork Engaged associates positively working together for a common goal Accountabilit y Taking responsibility by upholding the organizations mission and values Integrity Doing the right thing, ALWAYS Respect Being positive, courteous, honest and appreciative in all interactions Position Summary The Anesthesia Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Anesthesia Services, as well as adjunct supervision of the Chief CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Anesthesiologists. The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for planning, setting up, calibrating, trouble shooting and making minor repairs of anesthesia equipment located in Main OR, Cardiovascular Operating Rooms (CVOR), Labor and Delivery/ Tower, Endoscopy, Cath Lab, Radiology and any other location anesthesia is performed. The technician is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and reassembling anesthesia equipment; ordering and stocking of supplies in anesthesia department; performing quality control checks on required equipment; disposal of hazardous waste; stocking of all anesthesia carts and gas machines in accordance with pre-determined par levels prior to the start of each day and following each anesthetic care of the patients; cleans, organizes, and maintains anesthesia workroom, supplies and equipment. The Anesthesia Technician must adhere to Infective Control procedures, including Terminal Clean of Equipment and Patient Monitoring devices. The Anesthesia Technician be able to trouble shoot anesthesia gas machines and patient monitoring devices used by the anesthesia provider, occasionally, during patient care; be familiar with and provide care and cleaning of all difficult airway equipment, e.g. GlideScopes and Fiber Optic Scopes, and Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) probes; assemble and deliver hemodynamic monitoring devices when and where needed; assemble and deliver vasoactive drug infusion sets when and where appropriate; assist the anesthesia provider in positioning patients and equipment and placing non-invasive monitoring devices on patients; anticipate needs of the anesthesia provider for all surgical subspecialties. In emergency situations, the Anesthesia Technician must be able to anticipate additional equipment and supplies, as needed. Anesthesia Technician will setup and disinfect Belmont Rapid Infusion device. The Anesthesia Technician will prepare rooms for cardiac patient surgery, spike and prime cardiac IV drugs, assist the Anesthesiologist with final placement of specialized hemodynamic monitoring devices into patients undergoing cardiac surgery prior to operative procedure, identify dysfunctional or broken equipment and seek repairs of said equipment from appropriate internal and external sources. The Anesthesia Technician must be readily available at all times throughout the workday to assist professional staff during routine and critical situations. Although unable to administer pharmaceuticals and medications, the Anesthesia Technician is knowledgeable of anesthetic pharmaceuticals, is responsible for delivery of needed pharmaceuticals from the satellite pharmacy to the anesthesia provider, whenever necessary. Anesthesia Technician must be available throughout work shift to assist anesthesia provider with any need for anesthesia supply items and/or equipment. Out of hospital, (on-call) availability with potential for in-house staffing coverage for all hospital observed holidays and every Saturday will be assigned on a rotating basis amongst all Anesthesia Technicians. Minimum Requirements Education High School Education and working on health related degree, or have completed an Associates Degree or higher Willing to complete 10 hours of Continuing Education per year Experience 6 months experience in a health care setting License/Registration/Certifications N/A Preferred Requirements Preferred Education Associates Degree or higher with Anesthesia certification Preferred Experience N/A Preferred License/Registration/Certifications Certification through the American Association of Anesthesia Technicians Core Job Responsibilities must be able to work well with multiple individuals within anesthesia/perioperative surgical areas must be able to prioritize responsibilities, work quickly and efficiently must take initiative to perform duties in lieu of direct orders must show dedication to detail must be able to troubleshoot equipment and initiate Biomed assistance if needed must be able/willing to learn new procedures and/or practices must be willing to follow direction from multiple individuals 10 hours continuing education required per year Physical Requirements: must be in good physical/mental condition and able to withstand the stress and demand of an active position must be able to withstand long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending must be able to lift 40 pounds and lift supplies above head level must be able to read fine print must be willing to communicate with direct supervisor
