This role would be working within the Playback Services organization. Playback Services sits at the heart of many different systems and organizations across DSS. As such, many of our systems are considered critical-path to the overall user experience (user state management, playback URL generation/gating, stream concurrency detection/enforcement, resume watching, playback analytics) and need to be highly available, resilient and performant under high throughput. If you enjoy streaming media, are interested in live sports and entertainment, or just want to join a fast-growing team that plays an integral part of the revenue producing arm of a company, then our team is for you. Technologies include Scala, and AWS (ECS, SQS, SNS, Lambda, Dynamo, Elasticsearch, among others). Experience in these areas is preferred but not required. ResponsibilitiesYou work diligently with stakeholders such as project and product management to suss out requirements to provide technical solutions and direction.You are comfortable with ambiguity and be part of conversations where discordant views are present.You have an excellent understanding of software development fundamentals and architecture, and you aren''t dogmatic about technology choices.You have experience mentoring and coaching more junior engineers on both technical and soft skills.You preferably have knowledge/experience with web technologies and web systems architectureYou preferably have working knowledge of Java, Scala, and associated technologies.You preferably have knowledge/experience with AWS products and services (EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudFront, etc.) or other cloud providers.Basic QualificationsMinimum 5 years of professional experience Experience delivering backend applications in a production environmentExpertise in functional programming especially in a JVM contextExperience with Scala and/or Java + Spring Framework preferredExperience building RESTful servicesUnderstanding of async programming models (events, callbacks, promises, async/await) and threading/concurrencyUnderstanding of source control concepts and exposure to GitSelf-learner, independent, excellent problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and DockerExperience with AWS products and services (ECS, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudFront, etc.) or other cloud providersBachelors degree in Computer Science or related fieldAdditional InformationLocation: New York, NY, Santa Monica, CA, or Seattle, WA preferred but also open to US remote for the right candidate.The pay range for this position in Colorado is $117,752 to $157,960 per year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
