Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) - Wound Care provides patient care, case management, and consultation to patients regarding prevention and treatment of wounds, skin management, and ostomies. This position collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Typical Duties: Delivers nursing care to assigned group of patients to include education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment planning, pain management and discharge planning utilizing the nursing process. Delivers quality nursing care while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury. Maintains safe and clean working environment ensuring compliance with procedure rules and regulations. Provides and coordinates patient care, educates patients and public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and family members. Resolves patient problems and needs by using multi-disciplinary team strategies. Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action. Serves as a leader by precepting and mentoring RN I, and students. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients'' responses. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients'' conditions. Provides assessment, planning, patient care, and education to patients with regard to wounds, skin management, and ostomies appropriate to age and developmental stage. Establishes and manages hospital protocol for skin care, ostomies, and wound management including the use of wound vacs. Assesses patients for specialty bed needs and acts as liaison for the hospital and specialty bed providers. Provides patient/family education on wound, skin, and ostomy care. Serves as a clinical resource consultant on ostomy, skin care, and wound management Facilitates employee education on issues of ostomy, skin care, and wound management Evaluates products used for ostomy, skin, and wound management care. Implements new patient care products through appropriate committee structures. Maintains statistical data on wound care activities. Performs other job related duties as assigned. Qualifications:Required Education and Experience: Associates or higher degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing. 2 plus years of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Current JPS recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment. Completion of unit specific competency based orientation program within 90 days. Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment. Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (WOCN) society membership. Certification from an accredited Wound, Ostomy, Continence Therapy Program.
