Yard Safety Rep (Entry Level)

We have an exciting opportunity for a split shift yard safety rep. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with little trucking / logistics experience. Applicants who have DOT and trucking experience are welcome to apply but no industry experience is necessary for the position. The position may train on day shift, but the permanent schedule would be: Sunday and Monday 6PM-6AM, Friday and Saturday 6AM-6PM. Training will be conducted in office in Gary, IN, but the regular worksite is located in Hegewisch, IL. Our safety reps are highly independent workers and ensure that drivers, trucks, and trailers that run for our company are safety compliant. The position will primarily work in South Chicago (Hegewisch neighborhood). Our safety reps work in various environments (office, outside in yards, near docks, etc.). Position is entry level, but successful safety reps typically have a background in: customer service, construction, warehousing, industrial, mechanical, or compliance. Experience in logistics or trucking is not required but would be helpful for the job. Must be comfortable working in outside, in trailer offices, and near docks. The safety rep may be asked to climb inside and under trailers. The position may be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Must have basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Outlook and Excel. The rep must be able to work without supervision and maintain communication between several departments. Our safety reps are provided a company vehicle to travel between yards and near the docks. Therefore, the chosen applicant must have valid driver''s license and clean motor vehicle report. A pre-employment physical and drug screen is required. Duties: • Investigate accidents and fill out proper reports • Report incidents • Create claims and cases • Conduct mock inspections on trucks • Update the status on trucks and trailers • Learn DOT regulations • Conduct driver audits The position starts at $15.40 an hour and will receive yearly raises.
