This is a hybrid position for those already in Tulsa, OK or willing to relocate to Tulsa, OK.**Academic Venture Exchange (AVX) curates a community of professionals dedicated to scaling deep tech ventures sourced from leading academic research institutions. Our mission is to better connect high impact entrepreneurs to new ventures emerging from university and scientific research.This AVX position will be stationed in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Office-based and virtual meetings/events will be necessary for this position. Travel will be necessary, yet infrequent.AVX is seeking a Venture Associate with a passion for exploring the commercial viability of scientific research-based ventures. They must possess an interest in financial analysis, startup investing, communications, partner relations and business development. They must thrive in a fluid work environment and be able to communicate information clearly and concisely to a range of stakeholders within the AVX Network, including entrepreneurs, investors, university researchers, licensing officers and startup community partners.Ideal candidates include professionals with at least three years of work experience in financial services, consulting, valuation, investment management, or investment banking. This candidate will function in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment with a focus on evaluating the most impactful researchers and founders launching new ventures from university IP.Responsibilities include: Source, evaluate and prioritize a robust pipeline of deep tech startups, entrepreneurs and venture investorsPerform due diligence on network referrals for potential deep tech startups, entrepreneurs and investorsPortfolio management (i.e., deal and portfolio tracking and analysis)Creation of high-quality presentations (i.e., marketing materials, investor decks, data analysis, etc.)Works directly with Managing Director and senior leaders to identify, shape and prioritize objectives across projects relevant to commercialization and startup growthTrack and analyze university innovation ecosystemsEngage with AVX University Partners to determine opportunities for improvementLiaise extensively withSerial entrepreneurs seeking their next opportunity to buildExperienced advisors, scientists, researchers and c-suite operatorsVenture capital and angel investors interested in emerging deep / frontier tech venturesAttend industry events (virtual/in-person) and arrange community engagement effortsParticipate in a variety of projects for internal automation and process improvementsAssist in outside business development effortsTo be considered for the position, you will have:Passion for the business mechanics of starting and scaling deep tech ventures Bachelor''s degree from an accredited four-year university in finance, economics, accounting, information systems, or related field preferredMBA, PhD or advanced degree, certification, or commensurate work experience in deep tech (biomedical sciences, AI/ML, Quantum, pharmacology, chemistry, or a related field) is a plusProfessional experience that prepares you to work within a team environmentYou must be able to demonstrate comfort with a diverse range of people and personalitiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken)An insatiable curiosity to understand the novelty, context and implications of a deep technology venture, which could come from a variety of technology sectorsStrong operating, financial and analytical skills supported by a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Required)Pitchbook, Salesforce, Wellspring or similar CRM is a plusExperience with data analysis and management is a plusUnderstanding the venture capital space is a huge plusQualities / SkillsDiligently and consistently produces timely work with strong attention to detailSound business judgment and decision-making abilitiesExcellent organizational, communication, presentation and interpersonal skillsAbility to plan and prioritize assignments; ability to multi-task and meet critical and established deadlinesAbility to learn quickly with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a high-performance teamSelf-starter who is coachable and possesses intellectual curiosityAbility to collaborate and maintain strong working relationships with various AVX PartnersOperate effectively with minimal oversight while meeting tight timelinesThis demanding and intellectually stimulating role is Tulsa-based.At AVX, we value the diversity of our team.
