The Opportunity At NextGen we are all about exceptional client service and strategic business services. Payroll is a new service offering to our practice and this role requires someone who is comfortable as a trailblazer to help create, refine and perfect systems and workflows that deliver an accurate and consistent payroll process for our clients. This role requires someone who has a purpose and passion to foster, develop and nurture strong and trusted relationship with clients through timely and accurate communications. You will assist in attracting new clients to our new and rapidly growing department, problem solve matters as needed, and guide a specialist who performs the tactical duties of the role. Lastly, as a high tech CPA firm, we utilize cutting edge technology that requires someone who is a fast learner and comfortable working online and with cloud-based software. Key Responsibilities As Sr. Payroll Specialist, you will play a foundational role in all payroll services. • You will be responsible for nurturing new client prospects, onboarding new clients and keeping clients fully informed the entire way. You will be the primary reviewer of existing payroll clients to ensure complete and accurate data entry by the specialist and ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with federal, state and local tax authorities. Additionally, you will collaborate with peers in our tax and accounting departments to ensure payroll is a strategic service that supports the clients overall business goals. As the integrated department of NextGen, you may occasionally be asked to help with related work in other areas of the business. We''re a fast-growing organization, so from time to time we ask everyone to help out with projects beyond their normal range of responsibilities. Essential skills for brilliance Provides excellent customer service and communication skills to help nurture prospects into clients who become long-term members of the NextGen family. Reviews weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll for assigned employee groups each pay period, including review of entry of direct deposit information, payroll cards, garnishments, levies, child support orders, per diems, living allowances, company vehicles, insurance adjustments and 401(k) loans into the payroll systems. Analyzes, prepares, and reviews all payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws. Reviews and approves all payroll and payroll deductions for accuracy. Makes timely and accurate federal, state and local tax deposits and files all applicable withholding and unemployment tax returns including year-end returns. Reviews and balances all payroll-related payments to outside parties including tax deposits, garnishments, and/or 401(k) employee contributions, employer match contributions and employee loan payments. Responds to a variety of inquiries regarding payroll policies and procedures from small business owners. Maintains high degree of confidentiality and customer service. Maintains current knowledge of the payroll processing systems and changes in wage and tax laws. Assists in the development of overall payroll procedures by recommending improvements or changes when deemed necessary for greater efficiency. Periodically updates payroll training manual and cross-trains with other payroll employees to maintain current knowledge of payroll processing throughout the department. To qualify you must have Strong analytical abilities with the ability and desire to problem-solve Strong leadership skills with that ability to supervise 2+ direct reports Strong oral and written communications skills with the ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization. Must be highly customer service oriented, with demonstrated skill and desire in responding to and resolving problems and issues quickly and accurately. High degree of attention to detail Proficiency in the use of a personal computer including Microsoft Word, Excel, and G Suite. • Demonstrate understanding of relevant regulations pertaining to wage and tax laws.Must have a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Minimum qualifications Educational and experience requirements include a bachelor''s degree 2+ years of related payroll experience Preferred qualifications FPC or CPP certification preferred but not required The ideal candidate is comfortable providing these essential services and developing a great working relationship with our team and our clients.
