The Outpatient Oncology RN is responsible for delivery of professional nursing care according to the established policies of the department, WJMC, Louisiana State Board of Nursing and Oncology Nursing Society Guidelines for Practice. The Outpatient Oncoloy RN must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to guide staff and act as a resource. The RN must be able to provide care to oncology patients undergoing treatment and administer supportive care related to cancer treatment. This role is complex and varied and involves direct patient care, encompasses patient and family education, symptom management, patient/family advocacy and counseling, health maintenance, preventative and self-care, coordination of services and care, telephone follow-up and continuity of care across the cancer care continuum. The framework and focus of oncology nursing practice is on the high incidence problem areas common to oncology patients: information, coping, comfort, nutrition, protective mechanisms, mobility, elimination, sexuality, ventilation, circulation and prevention/early detection.*Job Specifications - Education and Experience Certification(s): CPR (Required); Oncology certification (Preferred) Licensure(s): Louisiana RN Unencumbered Licensure (Required) Related Experience ( Specify months or years): 18 months of previous experience in an inpatient or outpatient oncology unit.(Required)
